::Actually, you never have to twist your arm more than 90° in each direction, and that's one of the things I thought was so friendly about the controls. The twist angles are skewed so that tipping 90° CW or CCW steers you straight down. --Mu mind 13:01, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

I think it should be featured. It's just great. Is capable to load import games without using that freakin' Free Loader; and many other things. Plus, wasn't it included on the apps pack on hbc.hackmii.com since the beginning (OK, I know the *.rar was removed)? Also, is often used by many people that have installed the HBC on their Wii's; and it's almost certainly it can't brick or fail on a load (remember that will detect the IOS used by the game and install it without updating the firmware) (can this be considered as a NAND permanent modification?). Who hasn't use this piece of art? Oh well, the facts speak for themselves...--PabloACZ 20:57, 06 September 2009 (UTC).

This obviously doesn't meet the HBC packaging criteria, but I doubt it will trash your NAND ;P . Obviously, I think this is an extremely useful application, and would like to make it more well known, since I read WB to keep up to date, I was disappointed to have no mention of this. I have not run it myself yet, and only just trimmed up the WB article page [this was before considering nomination actually, I was thinking of tossing it in the releases stream, I decided I wasn't that bold]. Hm.. maybe I'm not understanding this right... also, I fully agree that Dolphin is an awesome application for developers (like me)... but, isn't nominated software (even if it's not specifically stated in the rules above) supposed to run *on* a Wii? True Dolphin may not run on the Wii but it should be given every credit and 'Featured' as part of the homebrew scene - I would be totally lost without it, my homebrew development would be months behind without Dolphin as my son is always on the Wii and without people pumping out homebrew this site would suffer. This Wii port of the full-blown commercial game ("Star Control II" was made open-source in 2002) completely went below the radar when it was added to Wiibrew in October 2009. Dozens of hours of excellent, commercial-grade gameplay, and an epic (in the sense of the word when it wasn't leetspeek yet) backstory, considered one of the best games of the VGA DOS era. --Drmr 16:46, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Latest revision as of 21:02, 6 October 2019

This page is reserved for nominating homebrew for addition to the Featured homebrew page. Note that an application meeting these criteria does not guarantee it will be added - the final decision will be made by a WiiBrew administrator. Do not nominate your own application!

How to nominate

Please use this template:

App name
Reason why the app should be featured. -- ~~~~

Remember to add your nomination to the bottom of the Nominations section. And finally, be sure to make the title a link.

Criteria

The application must:

 • be completely stable
 • contain no major bugs
 • be of particular use or value
 • be usable by the majority of homebrew users (ie: support for SDHC, PAL, etc.)
 • have a quality WiiBrew wiki page (description, usage, controls, screenshots, etc.)
 • have a quality graphical interface
 • be in one of the following categories: games, emulators, media players, utilities, or loaders
 • be HBC compatible and be packaged with icon.png and meta.xml files
 • not modify the Wii's flash memory (NAND) or otherwise cause permanent changes to the Wii

Also note:

 • This is not a popularity contest - a new application might be a good candidate for this page, provided it meets the criteria above. Other applications, although popular, are not good candidates for this page (eg: Wii64)
 • If there are multiple versions of the same homebrew (eg: MPlayer), the most stable and maintained version will be picked
 • The final decision about whether an application will be added is made by the WiiBrew administrators
 • An application can be re-evaluated for inclusion at a later date

Approved Nominations

Actually, you never have to twist your arm more than 90° in each direction, and that's one of the things I thought was so friendly about the controls. The twist angles are skewed so that tipping 90° CW or CCW steers you straight down. --Mu mind 13:01, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Smashing!

Great shooting game, i like the grphics. -- Darklink 02:19, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

WiiX-Ball

It is a decent fan made version of the PC game DX-Ball for The Homebrew Channel. It has a lot of potential for future releases. --Wildgoosespeeder 02:17, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Wii Double Down

Excellent version of Blackjack, includes great GUI including first use of Mii's in homebrew.

WiiMC

The next generation media player. It plays pretty much any stream or file that you point it to, whether on true USB 2.0, SD, SMB, FTP, HTTP or DVD, with quality >= other media players for the wii. OFC also it is libwiigui (technically using the steriod injected version of the lib yet to be released fully) -- Mugotu 22:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Nominations

Wiiero

I'd like to nominate Wiiero because its awesome!! It meets all the requirements, except for maybe not having such good graphics XD, but i think should definitely be included! —Preceding unsigned comment added by WaxyPumpkin72 (talkcontribs) 15:38, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry - no SDHC Support :-( cannot be featured --Graingert 17:35, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Giddy 3

I personally think Giddy 3 is an amazingly polished bit of homebrew. Simple controls, well executed, professional looking graphics. It's a joy to play, both gameplay wise and technically. -- Sheepeh 19:49, 30th May 2009 (BST) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sheepeh (talkcontribs) Revision as of 18:58, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I'd like to second this - if only one nomination is required, please disregard this with my apologies. I've recently been introduced to Wii Homebrew, and for me, Giddy 3 stands out. It's also one of the only games my girlfriend likes to play, which must count for something! It's got more polish, humour and playability than a lot of commercial software I've recently played, and has an 'old school' feel that I love. -- CUS 4:04PM, 30th May 2009 (PST) —Preceding unsigned comment added by CUS (talkcontribs) 23:10, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

WiiPhysics

Still the coolest thing around. --Pinecone 11:13, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Seconded! Any game with physics is my kind of game! --Gameboy13 9:32, 19 June 2009

My favorite homebrew game! --fudgenuts64 5:34. 07 September 2009

Gecko OS

I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up yet. It's a very good app. Meets all the requirements, I believe. WaxyPumpkin72 07:08, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

This should of been featured in the first place! This app has helped me a lot! Gameboy13 02:00, 23 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding undated comment added 19:03, 23 July 2009 (UTC).

I'd say it certainly deserves a featured place. It was the main reason I initially homebrewed my Wii. ~ PhoenixTank | talk | contribs | 09:09, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

By far one of the best homebrew applications around, wasn't maintained for a while, but brkirch has been updating it quite frequently lately.--MattMan 18:16, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

This is a very good app. I was surprised when it wasn't already featured. Abyrne55 20:03, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

What are you waiting for?! Feature this app already! :P --Wildgoosespeeder 01:57, 29 August 2010 (CEST)

Wiispace

This game rocks. Like Geometry wars but original concepts and a lot more fun. Four players, Gamecube and Wiimote+Nuncuck controller support, even some bosses. Very playable and very retro style game. I showed the game to a friend and he finally decided to make his Wii homebrew able. So I think its a good app to show off. -- Shadow1w2 21:05, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

GuitarsOnFire

this game is awesome, has frets on fire song support, and multiplayer, and best of all, has pretty good graphics Calthephenom 19:19, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

This must be featured! --Jannis234 14:29, 11 July 2011 (CEST)

WiiRadio

WiiRadio is a SHOUTcast stream player. It can read from thousands of Internet radio streams and play them back on the Wii. It is FUN and easy to use! TiMeBoMb 19:01, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Dolphin Emulator for Wii & NGC

This caught me off guard, I was aware of this app before it added wii support [before the wii was released actually], and forgot about it. I'm reading slashdot today, and what do I find? http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/12/05/0548259

PidGin128 04:21, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Hm.. maybe I'm not understanding this right... also, I fully agree that Dolphin is an awesome application for developers (like me)... but, isn't nominated software (even if it's not specifically stated in the rules above) supposed to run *on* a Wii? Izhido 08:25, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

True Dolphin may not run on the Wii but it should be given every credit and 'Featured' as part of the homebrew scene - I would be totally lost without it, my homebrew development would be months behind without Dolphin as my son is always on the Wii and without people pumping out homebrew this site would suffer. How about special dispensation in this case? Otherwise I'll stamp my feet and wave my hands about --Titmouse 22:06, 1 February 2011 (CET)

DragonMedia Player

I'd like to nominate dragon media player because it's simple to use and has a lot of options to customize it too. in short it's the best app for playing music on http://www.wiibrew.org --Aidanharris 10:48, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

MPlayer CE

I think the best "Media Center" program, I use it because it has all the features the other mplayer programs combined, easy to use and widely used by the wii owners. --Elisherer 08:47, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I used to use it all the time before I bricked my wii. Its awesome, it allows video streaming from any computer in your network, very useful if you have a server filled with movies. I used the server because I didn't like the idea of burning up my laser on dvd's. --Abeckring 02:43, 29 August 2010 (CEST)

Rick Dangerous Wii

It's a very high quality game -- I'm surprised it hasn't been nominated yet. :) -- Diego_pmc Talk 11:03, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

The Ur-Quan Masters

This Wii port of the full-blown commercial game ("Star Control II" was made open-source in 2002) completely went below the radar when it was added to Wiibrew in October 2009. Dozens of hours of excellent, commercial-grade gameplay, and an epic (in the sense of the word when it wasn't leetspeek yet) backstory, considered one of the best games of the VGA DOS era. --Drmr 16:46, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Psycho

This is a great app and its very addicting i could play with it for hours! Randomdude 06:16, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

StillAliveWii

StillAliveWii is one of the most advanced and polished homebrew games I've seen yet. It has solid graphics, solid controls, a level editor, online access to new levels, two player co-op, menus, and good sound design. It is on HBC, comes with icons, and SDHC support. Easily on par with Super Mario War. -- TheTome 04:27, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

TetWiis

One of the best Homebrew versions of Tetris out there. --Wildgoosespeeder 02:00, 29 August 2010 (CEST)

Genesis Plus

With the new version Genesis Plus is on par with all of the other emulators already approved. SDHC support, full graphic menu's, support for virtually every feature genesis games ever had, and it even comes with a nice manual! TheTome 03:22, 28 November 2010 (CET)

The Prophecy

The latest playable demo just screams full fledged Castlevania game. A good game with nice graphics and music, fully working and playable. Even saving and loading is included.

Yahtzwii

This is one of the more polished homebrew games I have seen. It is fun and very addicting, with very good graphics. --SergeantFTC —Preceding undated comment added 00:09, 17 December 2011 (CET).

WiiMednafen

It is a very good emulator with support for many consoles. It emulates systems better than most homebrew emulators (ex: VBA is not as good as WiiMednafen) and emulates some systems without their own Homebrew emulator. LeTesla (talk) 21:01, 6 October 2019 (CEST)
