Wii

The Nintendo Wii is a seventh generation console created by Nintendo. It was first released on November 19, 2006 in North America and in December 2006 for most other regions. It is Nintendo's fifth major home game console, following the GameCube.

Over the years, the Wii became the sixth best selling console of all time, and revolutionized motion controls in the world of video games. The Wii was also the console of some of the top 50 best selling games of all time, including Wii Sports, Super Smash Brothers, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii.

Homebrew

On top of being a popular console, the Wii also has a huge homebrew scene. The homebrew scene began small, but became big rather fast in the late 2000s to the early 2010s. While the popularity of Wii homebrew declined, it still remains heavily popular. Because the Wii is not a trivial console to homebrew, it is the easiest console to get into in terms of homebrew. There are many homebrew applications, ranging from utilities, to emulators.

Product codes

RVL

RVL is the product code for all consumer Wiis, including Wii Family Edition and Wii mini. It is also used as the code for the NDEV unit.

RVL0

RVL0 has only been seen in Data Check & Log Check and MIOS's Revolution OS versions. No physical unit has been seen.

RVT

RVT has been seen on RVT-H readers, which were development units that used a hard drive instead of an optical drive. Not much else is known about this product code.

RVD

RVD is only known to exist because it is mentioned in IOS's KD module. The D might stand for "development," although it is unclear how this is different from RVT.

RVA

RVA is the product code for the Wii-based arcade board co-developed with Capcom for the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes arcade cabinets.

Unlike the other product codes, RVA is not mentioned in IOS, and is probably not used in /title/00000001/00000002/data/setting.txt, although it is not known what RVA units do have in this file. The NAND Boot Program detects this console type by checking if /title/00000001/00000002/data/RVA.txt exists; it is not currently known what this file contains.
