Wanted Apps

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there was another game called wiilander which was at V1.0 which was updated and replaced by this version. If so, did someone else take this project over or is it still the same guy or a completely new game?

Questions

DVD-X

Does the DVD-X Installer download come with PatchMii so it can install the patchmii version for modchip users? or is patchmii a seperate app you have to install altogether?

Easy Access

Is it possible to make a channel of this for the system menu for easy access to the HBB. This way it could be like the Wii Shop Channel. Thanks! OJ

The difficulty with this is extra code (not too difficult, mind) would have to be added in order for it not to crash if you forgot to insert the SD card. You can, of course, DIY by using a tool (can't remember what it's called <_<) available SOMEWHERE on the internet. --Lukegb 22:30, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
You won't see a channel version anytime soon, since there's no legal way to make a channel. The only channel code out there is Nintendo's code, and the Homebrew Channel's code, both of which the author's haven't given permission to use. All the channels you see out there use Nintendo's code, and this is copyright infringement. --Tantric 23:18, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

This app is great but I know it must cost something to operate the servers and stuff. Did you ever think of getting sponsors to pay for these expenses and other hastles?

Better info storing

Right now the way info on files are stored is through images. This seems like the server would waste a lot of time just sending the headers and stuff so instead if it just sent text containing all the stuff it would probably speed stuff up. Just Install

A few apps like DVDx just require you to run them once- would it be possible to distinguish these from "real apps". I don't know if it's possible to run an app in an app but if it is I think this could be a good feature. --Mjbauer95 03:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Text Size Etc.

I love this app! I don't know what I would do without it. However, I don't have a very big TV and also have poor eyesight. Is it possible to make the text in the browser a little bit bigger? Thanks. Quixada1

Screen space is at a premium. Consider getting rid of the bar beneath each app box (w/ the buttons), and just having the pictures. Then when you click on an app picture, it overlays a window (like the one for controls & info) that lets you see info, download, etc. Then you could make the category toolbar larger. About section for each app

I was thinking about doing an about pop up for each application but doing that might take too long as it would have to been done for each application... unless people would like to help out? Keep the current pictures, but when the user clicks on the about button for an application it would be cool if it had the same function as when you click on a program in the Homebrew Channel where a window pops up over the screen and has all the program information, but you could replace it with whatever stats you want. It would be a great feature to be able to rate the homebrew games. I don't know if would work without too much work, but I had some ideas: You can only rate downloaded games and you can change your rating whenever you want. Of course, you would be able to sort by rating. I know, it would be much work and it seems pretty useless, but I think there are already (or soon) over 100 homebrew games online and you don't know what you should download when you first launch Homebrew Browser. Peripheral Images

Color Blind - Different Icons for Installed/Update Available

Instead of having a blue or green (I think) check-mark for installed apps and apps with updates available, would it be possible to have different icons such as a check and a cross? This isn't a cosmetic niggle, I'm red/green colour blind (as are approx 1 in 10 men) and against the white background I find it almost impossible to tell if I have the latest version of an application at a glance. --Neversoft 19:23, 7 August 2008 (CEST)

When LowLines did the design he did have a cross to mark applications that don't have updates, but as the cross is universally recognized as "something is wrong", I asked him to just make the blue tick. Background Downloading

Right now the downloads are fairly slow. I don't know if this is a limitation of the Wii or of your servers, but either way it would be nice if you could still browse the homebrew and queue things for download while something is downloading. If things were queued it would be nice if there was a separate download section.

Info/Stats Bar for SD Card

Loading GUI First

Why don't load the GUI first, and them tell the user that is loading the network, them looking for an update and downloading the list. The idea will be not to show that ugly command text at startup. A little bit similar to the Homebrew channel, whe it shows an icon when loading the network device and reading the SD card. --EvilMind 13 July 2008.

I kinda like having the terminal pop up to show what it's doing. It also helps users to debug what may be going wrong such as when Teknecal forgot to upload an image. I'm sure it would have gotten fixed but it just brought the problem to our attention so much faster. --NatenNator 18 July 2008

GUI - but if there's an error (i.e. like Linux with its bootsplash) bring up the terminal and display. Alternatively, you could check for a file in the folder where the HBB is stored (say ilikemyterminal) and if so, then leave it at terminal. HB Titles - Please Delete Old Emulators

It seems like in the emulator categories all of the pictures all just say "NES Emulator" and the details don't help distinguish them apart (Just says, "NES Emulator" for most.") -- I installed FCE Ultra GX manually (the one linked here on wiibrew.org) but it didn't set off the installed mark on any of the ones in the browser: why are there like 10 versions of an NES emulator in this browser, anyway?

I second that, it is very confusing to know which one to use and even to know which ones are even supported anymore. Maybe just a more detailed description on each variant of snes9x. New Image Download Behavior

The old style suited me better. I have a slow internet connection, so downloading the images takes a bit of time. I would prefer all the images to be loaded at the start, so my homebrew-browsing experience is not interrupted by waiting for images to load. Maybe add it back as an option? Check Colors

This may be a simple thing to do or not so i am going to ask: Is it possible to have you make settings to make the checks for needs updating and up-to-date something like an X for out-of-date and a check for up-to-date? HBB Issues

Popular category is never updated

Is this popular category view ever updated. I never see it change. If i check the HBB download statistics i see a complet different overview. I think there is some where a bug. Failed Update Kills HBB

Something is screwy with the HBB's server today and although the HBB found a new update, it failed upon trying to download it. So it deleted boot.elf but didn't update and replace it with a new one. I had to manually install the new version of HBB. I'd suggest some better error handling there ;) --AerialX 20:11, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Can not initialize internet connection

I am currently using a Wii with 3.2 firmware, and homebrew channel beta 8. I have installed and gotten plenty of apps to work fine, however I have never been able to get this application to work. It just says that it cant initialize with the network. Opera works fine, weather channel, wii connect 24, and the Homebrew channel had updated automatically when I installed beta 7. Is there are a port you would recommend opening up on my router to try and solve this issue. I have a feeling my routers firewall is blocking it. Its an actiontec wifi router that comes standard with verizon fios.

The Homebrew Browser uses HTTP on port 80 to get all of the data... So unless port 80 is blocked by your firewall, I don't think that's the issue. However, I have heard of other people having this same issue without resolution. Can I ask specifics about how your Network connection is set up on the Wii? As in, Wireless, Nintendo Wifi adapter, Wired... Static IP, Automatic, Proxy.... ? Any info would be helpful --ProdigySim 19:12, 22 July 2008 (CEST)

So i use the wii's built in wifi, with automatic configuration on a WEP key. I believe its 64 bit WEP, but it may be 128 bit. I can check when I get home. I will try disabling it though when I get home and see if that changes anything. --DaveyDucati 14:53, 22 July 2008 (EST)

So I resolved the problem by placing my wii in a DMZ in the routers settings. I also noticed that the homebrew channel doesn't connect to the internet unless the wii is in the DMZ as well. For some reason my firewall doesn't play nice with homebrew. I can try to email you a log of my firewall activity if you like. --DaveyDucati 20:16 22 July 2008 EST
It appears that after one successfuly connection, I could not log in again. I Switched to WPA on my wifi, and I did get it to work, but i dont know if thats just one time because it involved resetting my router. I will do more testing tonight. If the wii is in the DMZ though it cant be a firewall issue. I would keep it on WPA, but not all wifi devices in my house support it. --DaveyDucati 09:16 23 July 2008 EST
The other case I had heard of got resolved, and it was also a case of using automatic configuration (AOSS). He changed from that to a manual configuration and it began working. --ProdigySim 07:31, 24 July 2008 (CEST)

Have you tried to disable wiiconnect24 before starting HBB?

I had the same problem using wireless and WEP, but it seemed that changing to a Static IP solved the problem. --tpw_rules 22:34, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Another thing to try is to disable WEP. I spoke to had a user who couldn't initialise the network and when they disabled the WEP security, it worked.

Greetings! The only way to fix the "Unable to initialise network, exiting" error for me, is using a non-encrypted connection or WEP.

On my Wii, I've only got it to work 5 out of around 40 tries. WEP, WPA (AES), or no encryption doesn't seem to really matter. Could a retry button be added to Homebrew Browser when the network fails to initialize, instead of immediately exiting? In the Homebrew Channel, if I repeatedly retry connection, it works about the 2nd or 3rd time. File dates

I noticed when HBB writes to the SD, the files and folders doesn't have date, the field it's blank. I don't know if this is a problem with a library or the program itself. For the record, I'm using a FAT formated SD card. --Janus 17:54, 2 August 2008 (CEST)

Implementing Into WiiManage

You have a great system setup for HBB and I know that you have this all setup somewhere with all the images, files, and .xml things that the HBB goes to and grabs. I know I can implement into my application more or less anything HTTP. I want it to help you(the end user who is clueless) update everything, but on the computer side. I am a member of the Wiibrew Forums. The listing file is found at http://www.codemii.com/homebrew/listv021.txt which lists the application name, timestamp, image file size, dol/elf file size, is it a dol or elf, total directory size, folders to create, files to copy, any files to delete. In http://www.codemii.com/homebrew/, you will see the directory structure. The images files are in this directory as well as the folders for the applications. In each directory are the boot.dol/elf, icon.png, meta.xml and any additional files. --Teknecal 10:01, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Upgrade problem

Hello Teknecal, When i'm tryning to update with network, it's impossible ton do it When i want to update from the version 0.2.4, a code dump bug appear THX

My HBB upgraded fine from 0.2.4 to 0.2.5, but when I started the updated version a code dump occurred. I used FTPii and deleted the settings file. It appeared to have been created wrong and had odd characters in its name. HBB works now and I was able to change the settings in it. --Spnorth 15:50 December 13, 2008

Update problems

When updating to the latest version of HBB, I get the dreaded "This is not a valid Wii aplication message" Is anyone else getting this? Toagac 18:16, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

I have the same problem, I have the boot.dol file however it's quite smaler (15972 bytes) than original([1]) at 771200 bytes. Steinark 19:06, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
That's strange, I suppose I should add a file size check once the update has happened to check that it's the right size. --Teknecal 08:43, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
