To read DVDs, you will require [[DVDX]]. To read external drives at USB 2.0 speeds, you will also need the custom cIOS USB2 modified by the Mplayer CE team, which can be found on the [http://code.google.com/p/mplayer-ce/downloads/list Mplayer CE downloads page]. DVDx must be installed to IOS 202 for cIOS USB2 to be properly detected. Unfortunately, the DVDx installer for system menu 3.4 does not have an advanced install allowing the user to chose IOS 202. We are using IOS60 as a base as there has been improvements in wifi.

There is a work around for this but we cannot advise about it.

Most devices are supported by the library being used to provide usbstorage access, but some do not work due to various reasons such as noncompliance to standards. Such devices usually require special drivers to work and it would be an arduous task to track them all and write support for all of them. You can blame the manufacturers.

Also some drives have a bad detection, try the following, switch on USB Drive, Power Wii on, Boot HBC and load MPlayerCE, and maybe the drive will have mounted. * Files now first analyse, followed by cache, as cache was emptied on analysing previously so now you'll see cache filling later.

(The reason for DVDx not having to be installed if IOS202 is installed on the wii, is that there is a patch in IOS202 that doesn't require DVDx, and can access DVD without it).
