A lot of homebrew applications use the GameCube controller, as Wiimote support is fairly new and still being tinkered with. Make sure you're trying it out on both. The reboot is perfectly normal, it's the simplest way to get back to the system menu from code. I imagine once we figure out how to return cleanly back to the menu, we'll do that instead. Also, you can just hold down the power button for 5 seconds if an APP crashes, you don't have to pull the plug. (Still have to walk to the Wii though...)
