Bugs Reports Release Beta 9 (ISO36)

I have upgrade to Homebrew Channel release Beta 9 (ISO36) with the latest Wii firmware v3.3e (23 october 2008 release)

The following Homebrew applications are not working anymore:

  • ftpii
  • Homebrowser
  • Mahjongg Wii
  • Snake2
  • Wii Solitaire
  • maybe more....

I get the following error message after the application is loaded. Error, This is not a valid Wii application. With Homebrew Channel Beta 8 the above applications work fine. So i think it is a bug. I hope soon a patch will be available, keep up the good work! --wplaat

They don't work because they are out of date in a manner of speaking, and need to be brought up to the newer standards. This is not a bug with the HBC, but rather a problem with the individual apps. If you like, you can contact the authors of those apps and request that they be fixed. Flark 09:22, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

I have the exact same problem, and actually it's with every app that's in the .elf format...why does the new version not support .elf applications? Isn't that a bit of a downgrade rather than an upgrade? I hope that you're actually going to do something to expand the compatibility of the new version of HBC. Otherwise is there any way that I can go back to the old version without having to reinstall using the Twilight Hack or is there an app that'll convert .elf files into .dol format?

Read this article for more information about the changes: http://hackmii.com/2008/10/the-homebrew-channel-beta9/ There's a description how you can convert the executables by yourself. Alternatively wait until the authors release a new version. I think it's important to require compliant file specifications, this step had to be done sooner or later. miom

Display Problems

Black Vertical Bars

On both of my Wiis, on both of my widescreen TVs, and using both YPbBr and standard AV cables, I have black vertical bars (similar to pillarboxing) on the sides of the screen when viewing the homebrew channel. The bars are each about as wide as my thumb.

  • TVs are both NTSC (N.A.)
    • One is 16:9, the other one I am not sure about but it seems to have a slightly different, perhaps "taller" (height) aspect ratio.
  • Wiis are both North American.
  • Happens on all variations of wii screen settings as well as all variations of TV screen settings.
  • I have noticed some apps having the exact same problem.

I asked for help on this matter on #wiidev and #wiihelp but couldn't get a response that was useful. Nobody else appears to be having this issue. Unfortunately I could not stay on IRC due to internet connection issues.

I believe that it is possible that some of the top and/or bottom of the display is also not being shown. To put it another way, my theory is that the display is being "stretched" vertically so that parts of the top and bottom are out of view and parts of the sides are left black.

Flark 13:38, 14 July 2008 (CEST)

Same here, PAL Wii. Felix 15:11, 14 July 2008 (CEST)

I have been able to confim my theory but I still don't understand why this problem exists. I think the reason it isn't being widely reported is that most people using homebrew do not have widescreen displays and that those who do have them believe that the problem is normal or they simply do not feel like reporting it, believing/hoping it will eventually be resolved without any action on their part. Flark 23:13, 18 July 2008 (CEST)

I'm having the same "problem" on my PAL Wii here. I'm normally using 16:9 and 480p. But I tried all other possible settings too (480i / 576i / 4:3). I also tried my other cables (std-av and RGB). In some combinations the output is slitely different. The bars are a bit thinner, but they are always there. And it is true, that some parts of the output is missing on top and bottom of the screen. I must admit, it never bothered me. So, there was no reason to report it. But now, I'm too happy using GeexBox and now it IS bothering me ;) --> Ratio is not correct and parts of the video missing. Would be nice, if someone could explain - or even better - fix this issue. I don't know if this is a general problem or related to the HBC since i'm starting all my homebrew from within the HBC. But it happens with the HBC itself and all applications i start. Can someone confirm that this also happens when apps are started "directly" with the twilight hack? Modulo

Verified. Maybe it is a problem with one of the development libraries everyone is using. Flark 09:20, 23 July 2008 (CEST)
It must be a problem with libogc. I will try to contact somebody about this but I expect to fail. I don't think anybody actually gives a crap about this bug. It may even be as old as gc homebrew. Flark 18:53, 27 July 2008 (CEST)
Turns out it is a problem with default settings in libogc. It can be easily fixed for each homebrew app. See http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2029635&group_id=114505&atid=668551 for information. Be sure to scroll down to the comments. Flark 21:36, 27 July 2008 (CEST)
Thanks Flark. So, there actually is an explanation and a solution. I guess, we just have to hope everyone (every dev) is listening to the pepsiman :) Modulo
Don't celebrate prematurely. According to marcan, this is not so easy to fix and it may take a few more versions of the HBC to see it done. Flark 22:18, 30 July 2008 (CEST)
I think marcan needs to be hit with a cluebat. --Pepsiman 12:52, 1 August 2008 (CEST)
LOL. Well, maybe he thought I was talking about something else. After all, Marcan isn't stupid. Flark 21:40, 1 August 2008 (CEST)
Fixing the bars is easy. Adding proper 16:9 support isn't. Either way, HBC has no control over the video modes of the apps it launches, and it isn't a big concern on HBC itself. If it annoys you with some app, then that app needs to be fixed. We'll fix the black bars if we get a chance for the next version, but it won't do squat to black bars on loaded apps. Marcan 20:07, 4 August 2008 (CEST)

Minor graphical error

Every once in a while parts of the screen will go black for a bit. It doesn't last much longer than about 1/4 a second, and as far as I know, doesn't harm anything. - トウメイ

Translation

In fact this is a not bug, but there are some errors in the French translation. Could the translation be made public or can we contact someone to report bug or suggest a better translation. - Crayon

There have been a few screwups in the b7 version of French. b8 should be much improved. There are still a few things that were fixed but got reverted due to a screwup - "chaine" should be "Chaîne" in the credits, and "Téléchargement de la mise à jour (%u Ko)" is probably going to get cut (this shows up during an update) - it has been shortened to just "Téléchargement (%u Ko)", which you'll see in beta8a or beta9 (not when you update to it, but during the next update after that). Marcan 16:13, 6 June 2008 (CEST)

error on loading HBC b8

i got this error on loading the HBC for the 5th time, it occured onece but i just wanted to report it

translated:the wii data is damaged. read the manual for more information.

it happened like this:

  • after loading the wii webserver alpha i forced a power-off by holding the power button.
  • powered on the wii
  • started HBC
  • got the error

wiimote would not sync, reset button did not work, forced poweroff

  • after restarting everything worked ok again.

extra info: pal wii, all downloadable updates. Bitflusher 10:51, 6 June 2008 (CEST)

I believe that in English this is the "System Firmware has been corrupted" message. I have heard 3 or 4 reports of this, and although it is disconcerting it is apparently harmless. If anyone has a way to reliably reproduce this, please let me know -- otherwise there's not much we can do. Bushing 13:39, 6 June 2008 (CEST)
Yeah, I've seen it once or twice, but it's not easily reproducible. Unless we come across the issue more often, I'm afraid there's not much we can do. It's too intermittent to debug, you'll just have to deal with it. This is a system menu message. Marcan 16:13, 6 June 2008 (CEST)

Turning Off Wii from HBC b8 Doesn't Really Turn Off

Pressing the power button doesn't seem to fully turn off the Wii, the light stays green- this might be cosmetic but it should be looked into.

Pics by otto888:Off by HBC: http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/7518/img0520cy2.jpg (I shaked the camera so you could see the green light) Off by...anything excpt HBC: http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/4675/img0519yx1.jpg (You can barely see the orange)

Wait. Which power button are we talking about here? Bushing 13:57, 6 June 2008 (CEST)

To reproduce: enter HBC, push power button.

No Wii homebrew software currently supports the Wiimote power button, AFAIK. We don't actually get a button-press event when you hit it, so we don't know when to turn off. Bushing 13:39, 6 June 2008 (CEST)
No, he's right, with the Wii's button. It hangs on beta8 because we now use IOS21 and it seems there's some incompatibility. Reverting to IOS35 / LoadPreferredIOS (36 on my wii) works. It's not only cosmetic - the Wii stays on. We'll try to figure it out asap. Marcan 16:13, 6 June 2008 (CEST)

exit to system menu issue

I have a SDGecko and GC Memcard so this update is great as I do not have to remove them when loading the channel. The one thing I still have a problem with (same as Beta 7) is exiting the channel back to the system menu with the GC Memcard and SDGecko still in. After the I hit yes or whatever on the confirmation screen to go back to system menu I get a black screen (basically a freeze) and I have to hold down the power button on the Wii. If I take those cards out and then exit to sysmenu it works perfectly. -- Unmodded NTSC Wii 3.2U

  • Exiting to System menu in fact resets Wii. I consider this to be an enhancement to HBC to make exit to System open directly the Wii System Menu.

Wireless Network Crashes using HBC V8

Anytime i run hbc v8, my router loses its wireless capability (all laptops, wii, etc.. drop offline)... v8 says "Network not initialized" in the menu. Moving back to v7 fixes the issue. From what marcan says, sounds like this may be an issue with capability between IOS21 and my router.

  • Router: 2wire router from AT&T
  • Wii: Modded NTSC Wii 3.2U

Beardface 9:00, 6 June 2008 (CST)

As I said, it's clearly a bug in the router (probably triggered by something that IOS21 does differently - but still a bug in the router). We'll see about loading the most recent version of IOS instead of hardcoding to 21, which should help. But be aware that, well, your router probably sucks (many do) ;). Marcan 16:13, 6 June 2008 (CEST)
Understood... Would be awesome to load lastest IOS though; As I'm not the biggest fan of buying a new router atm. (This 'shitty' router is less than a year old.) For now though, I'm more than happy with V7... allthough, could you tell me what exactly was changed in wiiload with v8? I'm using it heavily in V7 so it would be cool to know whats not quite working. Beardface 11:00, 6 June 2008 (CST)
try it with no security on the wireless. my network was unsecured and everything worked fine, but now i turned on security and it stopped working. i didnt notice if it brings down ALL wireless when i try to connect, and also i have not yet tried to change back to unsecured to see if that fixes it. the wii itself seems to be able to connect (everybody votes channel works). 3.2U yossi 05:47, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Which router are you using? The U-Verse router (3800HGV-B) seems to work fine with beta 8 (I haven't tried tcpload, but it displays an IP and certainly doesn't disable my router's wireless interface). I set my router to a fixed channel and 'WPA-PSK' (and used TKIP on my Wii). Try beta 8 and look in the event log after your wireless stops working. If you have the same router I do, try getting them to swap it. --Timedroid 06:10, 22 June 2008 (CEST)

GC Memcard Ports

I was quite pleased about the GC memcard bug fix, so had a test and beta 8 doesn't seem to work for me :(

When I have my Memcard in slot B, my USB LAN adaptor doesn't initialise and it seems to think I have a USB Gecko instead. If I put my Gecko into port A (on it's own or with the memcard), the same happens, although I obviously do have a Gecko at that point. My LAN adaptor is still inactive. If I have both ports empty, my LAN adaptor comes up fine.

As a side note, I still have the Memcard freeze. It just froze at 0% when loading an old version of Tetris, and as soon as I unplugged my memcard it jumped up to 100% and launched the game. Mr jrt 01:47, 7 June 2008 (CEST)

Yeah, the fix doesn't seem to work. I get a 0% freeze when I have an official Nintendo memory card in slot A as well. (I haven't tried other memory cards)--Timedroid 05:57, 22 June 2008 (CEST)

ditto on this issue. i can have a memcard in the slot on the right (i forget whether it's A or B) but when both are in, networking is disabled and nothing loads. --Nathew 23:37, 22 June 2008 (CEST)

Same issue here. With any memcard in slot B when launching HBC the wireless networking fails to initialize. Additionally if there is a memcard in slot B when exiting HBC the system hangs and can only be turned off by holding the power button on the console. --Zleppi 11:28, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Inverted Colors and Half Speed

I've been having this problem with VBA 1.7.2 on the Wii. It occurs at random, however, once I updated to Beta 8, the Homebrew channel Channel did this too (though only about 3 times). What happened was, I ran the channel, opened VBA 1.7.2, loaded Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga. I did NOT have inverted colors at this point. I accessed the suspend menu and exited the emulator. Upon returning to the homebrew channel, I was greeted with an orange background as well as everything being of inverted colors. The framerate seemed about half speed. Restarting my Wii corrects the issue. While this has happened multiple times with VBA, its happened about 3 times so far with the HBC. I own a launch model unmodded Wii with the latest updates downloadable (3.2U). The Wii is hooked up over component with 480p. No peripherals (controllers, mem cards, etc) plugged into the GC slots.

From what I have read, emu_kidd has stated that there is a memory leak when loading a ROM into the emulator, which is why there is no option to unload and load a new ROM during emulation. Could this somehow be corrupting the video display in both the emulator and the HBC? IIRC, the ROMs are loaded into mem2. Perhaps ensuring the memory is free when returning to the loader will help? Sadly, I'm not privy as to how the loader gets reloaded. Lobstar

No, it can't be a memory issue - everything is effectively wiped upon return to HBC. It sounds like some sort of video mode misconfiguration that libogc does not know how to correct, so HBC inherits the bad setting from VBA. See if you can find a way of reproducing it reliably and we can have a look at it. Marcan 14:44, 9 June 2008 (CEST)
Sounds like the frame buffer got misaligned somehow. A bad memory allocator in VBA? ector
This has also happened to me twice. Ive noticed it only happens when you enter the homebrew channel. The first time was when I entered the HBC from System Menu, and the second time was when I exited a homebrew program (forgot what it was). I think it might be a 480p issue, because I too have component cables. oops_ur_dead 23:40, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Wireless WEP unsupported?

I can't use the network capabilities of the HBC (load stuff through WLAN or download updates) while using WEP encryption on my WLAN, whenever i try the chanel throws an error screen (nice error handling though xD), if I disable WEP, the channel works perfectly... I dont beleve that is my routers fault cos i can connect the wii to the internet through all the chanels and games that support it :P.--Grillo 18:48, 10 June 2008 (CEST)

My WLAN has WEP encryption, and all works perfect(HBC 7 & 8 verions). --PaRaDoX 03:56, 12 June 2008 (CEST)
What error screen? Bushing 11:30, 23 June 2008 (CEST)
Today I remembered about this, so turned on my WEP again and checked for the bug, but it fixed magicaly... ill try to reproduce it anyways... --Grillo 02:30, 9 July 2008 (CEST)

I am having the same problem. I noticed it when I started to use the Homebrew browser. I am using wep 64 with no IEEE enabled. If I switch to WPA everything is fine. Also I placed the WII in the DMZ and the homebrew channel connected fine once, but then proceeded to not work again after.--DaveyDucati 20:13, 23 July 2008 (CEST)

I now have my router set to no security, but only allow certain mac addresses, and the Homebrew channel connects everytime. --DaveyDucati 17:24, 24 July 2008 (CEST)

IOS21 missing on 3.2E

A friend of mine tried to install the homebrew channel on a 3.2E Wii, but got the error message "you don't have the current version of ios installed". Now she never updated her Wii since she got it, until a few days ago. My guess is, that she just skipped IOS21. I don't really see a way of getting IOS21 now, unless we find a game that includes it. So I think it would be a good idea if the homebrew channel came bundled with IOS21 or searched which IOS is availible and used the one that is, if it's new enough. - Slowking 02:35, 12 June 2008 (GMT+1)

Any recent Nintendo game (say, anything with Mario in the title) should have a full set of IOSes. We can't bundle a version of IOS with the HBC due to copyright concerns. Unfortunately, due to the way channels are implemented, we have to pick a specific IOS version when we create the TMD for the channel. Bushing 11:30, 23 June 2008 (CEST)
I think this error occurs if you have a non-supported system version. My Wii was 2.1E (That happens if you neither have any Marios nor are online), and HBC did not install claiming it does not find ios21. Well, I *DO* have Lego Star Wars, so this could not be the full truth. Luckily, my recently purchased Wii Fit/Balance Board came along with 3.1E, and that fixed the problem, HBC installed. --Wiidiot 15:53, 19 July 2008 (CEST)

The same problem on 3.3E. Even reinstalled IOS21 (deleted with AnyTitleDeleter, and then used online update), still says that I'm missing IOS21. --Shadowbird 18:37, 7 August 2008 (CEST)

I've now seen this myself, but can't explain it. le sigh. Bushing 07:32, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

SD Card Freeze

I have HBC Beta8, and an NTSC USA Wii ver.3.2U. On the HBC, it will detect the SD fine, but if I eject it, and put it back in, it will not refresh, if it is supposed to, and if I try to load a homebrew application, it will not load at all. wackysystems

I am having the exact same problem with a ver.3.3 wii, HBC beta 8. It is interesting to note that this happened pretty much out of nowhere, as just a day before everything was working fine. PC still reads the card, even the regular wii system menu will read and copy files to the card. For whatever reason the HBC just fails to load any applications. mobilisq

Wiimote Extension Glitch

If you have a wiimote, and you plug in a Classic Controller, or a Nunchuck, then it will not show the cursor. However, if you unplug the CC or Nunchuck, it will work again.wackysystems

Rude hand gesture

Middle finger cursor

This is not a bug, but the cursor in the HBC is showing the middle finger. Can you please not be so rude and fix this :( wackysystems

It will only show you the middle finger if you had the hacked preview-homebrew-channel installed. It's their little revenge on people who used a hacked version of their work. I guess you'll have to live with it. ;) - Slowking 03:55, 12 June 2008 (GMT+1)
Actually that's not truth but you're doing a real good job of spreading the rumour. It's just a random occurrence - Furkle 05:07, 12 June 2008 (CEST)
First, I didn't use the Hacked-Homebrew-Version. Second, the hand isn't a random occurrence, it is there everytime I use the Homebrew Channel. Is there any way I can get rid of it? Thank you. wackysystems
It's random based on your system variables. If you get it you're mostly stuck with it, though system updates and other major changes can change things enough for it to change status. It's not random on every boot. Marcan 22:06, 21 June 2008 (CEST)
it would have had to been put their on purpose considering it loads an image file for the cursor so someone would have had to also include an image of the middle finger, the wii just doesn't out of nowhere render a regular hand image as a hand with a middle finger so It would have had to be directed towards people with the hacked HBC, if you never used the hacked HBC then the bug is that the HBC though you had the hacked one. --DrMario 18:53, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Life sucks, then you die. Bushing 07:33, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
I wonder if you can use AnyTitle Deleter to get a normal Cursor. --Flark 19:17, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
it would be funny just to have this cursor to show off for jokes, maybe a pc version of the cursor too lol

Losing WiFi Connection

Despite being next to my access point, I've found that the homebrew channel/my wii is losing its connection. This happens when running homebrew and returning to the launcher (which I why I presume its a problem with the channel and not my wii or WiFi). Is anyone else experiencing this?--Unknown

Is it eventually reconnecting? The Wii's WiFi connection isn't persistent.--Timedroid 06:30, 22 June 2008 (CEST)

Upside-down Cursor

The hand cursor is always upside-down in the HBC, even when I turn the Wii remote sideways or upside-down, but everything is fine in the Wii Menu. I also tried turning it off, unplugging extensions, and removing GC controller, but still nothing. Any Ideas? - wolped

My Hand Cursor is upside down (mirrored) and i cannot navigate correctly, is there a fix for this?? everything works fine it's just the cursor. Cheers

I've managed to fix mine, i don't know which step fixed it but i'll list all the steps. i ran twilight hack and as the black screen popped up i quickly unpluged the nunchuck, then i held the wiimote upside down and pressed "a" until the homebrew channel installed.

once the unit reset, continuing to hold the wiimote upside down i selected the homebrew channel and once it loaded i turned the wiimote up the right way and wala! no more upside down cursor.

Hope this helps.

Unresponsive cursor

My cursor barely responds. It seems to only respond to rotational movements of the wiimote. What can I do to resolve this?

If you are using a Nyko wireless nunchuck, try using the homebrew channel without the Nyko wireless receiver attached to the bottom of the wiimote.

Character encoding support

Will the lack of UTF-8 support and inability to use windows-1252 encoding properly (http://tinyurl.com/6kl3d5 for details) be fixed in a future release?

TLDR. What exactly is it you want the HBC to do that it doesn't do currently? Please be specific. Bushing 14:17, 6 June 2008 (CEST)
Precis: non-7-bit characters come out wrong. XML should support UTF-8 but the channel doesn't render it right. "ç" for example, in UTF-8 is 0xC3 0xA7, renders as "ç", because that's what the font holds for those chars. Using encoding that matches the font makes the parser reject the XML as invalid UTF-8, so accented chars are unusable.
Yes, exactly. Here are three potential solutions: (1) support UTF-8 fully which, ideally, is what I would like (2) choose an alternate metadata format that doesn't have to go through an XML parser in the first place and is expected to be windows-1252 (3) use an XML parser that supports windows-1252 as a charset (not sure if one exists outside of Microsoft though).
I'm not finding any non-English characters that are showing up correctly using UTF-8 encoding. UTF-8 is definitely not working as advertised. ProdigySim 05:21, 7 June 2008 (CEST)
Wait, we have advertising? :) In all seriousness, if you can give me some example files with different encodings that don't work -- and tell me how each of them should work -- I'll make them work. Bushing 11:18, 23 June 2008 (CEST)

We use a font with ISO-8859-1 encoding. Just use that in your XML files and it'll work okay. ISO-8859-1 covers most common western european languages. We can add UTF-8 support to the parser, but unless we also add a Unicode font (big!), it won't really help since you'll still be limited by the ISO-8859-1 font. Marcan 12:47, 2 August 2008 (CEST)

Freezes on menu, IP 0.0.0.0

On beta 8 (lastest version) and Wii 3.2E, sometimes when going to the menu (home button) the channel freezes completely (background & pointer included) during exactly 10 seconds. After that the menu appears, but on top it says "IP 0.0.0.0".

The globe icon is usually lighted when this happens, but sometimes it unlights after a few seconds of connecting. My Wi-Fi AP is an old D-Link DWL-900AP using WPA.

It seems to happen randomly, but I thinks it happens mostly after using FTPii. Connecting through Internet Channel usually fixes it.

Rumble

The rumble is way too weak compared to the Wii Menu. Felix 10:24, 30 June 2008 (CEST)

  • It should be nice to use the Wii System rumble preferences. Mine is off, but HBC still rumbles when pointing to applications.

-- bloomberg_es 21 July 2008

I second that, rumble can be potentially damaging to people with certain diseases. That's presumably the reason why there's a global option for this in the first place. Helsionium 14:36, 21 July 2008 (CEST)
I'll make it honor the setting in the next release. Marcan 12:49, 2 August 2008 (CEST)

Loading extra files as well as the .elf

Not really a bug, but particularly for development it would be quite handy to have a more convenient way of sending an application's data files over the USB gecko or wifi. This could be either something like ftpii built into the homebrew channel itself, or allowing wiiload to send whole directories. --Bigzoid 15:15, 11 July 2008 (CEST)

Meta.xml files larger than or equal to 4410 bytes cause a code dump

If the meta.xml file is larger than or equal to 4410 bytes, it causes HBC to code dump. It code dumps at the loading applications from SD screen. --Teknecal 11:18, 12 July 2008 (CEST)

App Description (meta.xml)

  • Sometimes, when viewing application's description, when navigating using "down" key, HBC freezes, and the console needs to be turned off.

Strange sound when i press exit on the homebrew channel

When i exit from the homebrew channel, the system menu and the games sound like they have interference, this only happens if i use the option exit on the HBC, if i execute another app (like snes9x) and i reboot the wii from there, this doesn´t happen (spanish: cuando salgo del canal homebrew, el menu del sistema suena como si hubiera interferencia, solo pasa al usar la opcion salir en el canal hombrew, si ejecuto otra aplicacion que permita reiniciar (snes9x por ejemplo) y reinicio la wii desde alli esto no pasa) NTSC Wii, 3.2U, not chipped

I can confirm that this happens, exiting the Homebrew Channel on my NTSC 3.3U unmodded Wii produces slightly distorted sound on the Wii Menu and other channels/games that are run after. This bug does not happen if the system menu is returned to directly from other homebrew. The distorted sound seems to fix itself when I power off and turn back on the Wii. Wiimote player roles switching with homebrew channel

When 2 wiimotes are connected to the Wii, on launching the homebrew channel the role of player 1 and player two are swapped between the wiimotes. This means I have to have both my wiimotes together most of the time... really annoying JD 11:33, 25 July 2008 (CEST)

Besides this it "rotates" all of the available wiimotes. (wiimote 1 becomes 3, 2 stays 2 and 3 becomes 1)

Date issues

I am a happy USB Gecko user. To boot games together with a remote debugger called WiiRd most users use Gecko OS. When booting Gecko OS via the Twilight Exploit the games being booted by Gecko OS function properly. Unfortunately it seems the homebrew channel resets the date/time of the console to January 1st 2000 12:00 AM (not sure whether this is a bug - maybe it's a feature). And people who try to debug/cheat on games using Gecko OS are unable to properly use games such as Wii Fit because those games are dependent on a correct system time. Is it possible to see this fixed in one of the coming up HBCs or is this even a general channel issue? Link 25 July 2008, 12:15 (CEST)

WiiLoad Issues

When I use WiiLoad, it fails to transfer the file properly about 80% of the time. The progress bar goes up normally to some random point and then stops. Next the Wii shows the failed to receive file dialog box. WiiLoad says failure and "No Error". I've never seen any other network issues with my setup. The file that I'm transferring is about 8 Mega-bytes.

  • Is the source available to WiiLoad? If not, what is the protocol that the HBC uses to transfer files?

Return to System Menu

VERY VERY MINOR BUG. Return to system menu shouldn't have the same effect as a Wii reboot (i.e. go to safety screen), it should simply return to system menu. Like the official channels :). --Lukegb 23:37, 1 August 2008 (CEST)

Wiimote player 1 & 2 Swap

If you have 2 wiimotes on before you launch the HBC player 1 and player 2 controllers switch. Also now when you exit the channel by turning on the wiimotes immediately (my friend being quite impatient and almost messed up some of the more delicate HB apps) you can actually have 2 wiimotes both as Player 1 or both as player 2 and it causes the wii to freeze and you have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to turn it off. I did not attempt this again but if you can't reproduce this and need a more detailed bug report I'd be glad to do this again. --DrMario 19:01, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Ive had the second issue before, where after using Ocarina to load Brawl, both Wiimotes were player 1. This happened after I had to hold the power button to turn off a few times, seeing what Brawl cheats would work. However, after about 15 seconds, they corrected themselves. oops_ur_dead 23:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Apps Do Not Load, HBC Freezes on Exit, and No Network

Ok, so I have encountered all of these problems using HBC. First off, none of the applications will load. Once I try to start an app, it will display a progress bar at 0% and stay there indefinitely. I cannot exit from here in any other way than by powering of the Wii on the console. No network connectivity, the icon in the lower-right corner does not respond at all, even though my Wii is connected to my network/the internet. Finally, when I try to leave HBC without attempting to load an app (i.e. I start HBC, look at some apps, press Home, and click on exit) my Wii freezes up. These problems occur every time I use HBC. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling HBC, using the installer DVD and the Twilight Hack to install, and the Wii data management to uninstall. I also used the SD Brew application to set up my SD card for HBC. Details about my Wii:

  • It has a WiiKey with 1.9s firmware
    • The drive type is D2A
  • The Wii System version is 3.1U
  • My SD card is 2GB PQI Hi-speed (60X)
  • I do not have any GC memcards plugged in when trying HBC (I do have a controller in)

Does anyone have a fix for this?!? Bide666 07:16, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

I too am having simmilar issues on a unmodded wii (3.3 firmware). My wii freezes upon closing the homebrew channel and I see no network. Dagi

Network problem - Network Not Initialized

I installed HBC on my 3.2J Wii using the iso method (I have a modchip) and connect it to my home network but i disconnect the internet from it on purpose (I don't understand japanese so I'm afraid I'll update my wii by accident). Im trying to use wiiload but HBC just says: "network not initialized". I tried addind my wii's BSSID to my routers MAC filter but with no luck. also i have nothing plugged in to my wii. 26 August 2008

HomeBrew Channel stalling in loading apps

To start out, I have a Wii updated with the latest firmware and it is not chipped. I've rarely experienced problems when loading HBC as everything seems to run smoothly. It has froze on me once only the first night I installed it which was a while ago, though all is fine now. I've encountered a problem the other night however; I've noticed upon HBC loading my SD card and its apps that I was free to choose anything as normal, though when I clicked on the Genesis emulator, HBC decided to take its own actions into play. I have not yet chose to Load or Cancel the application from the HBC interface. You know when you get the dim screen in the background when you choose an app or are reading a description?, I had gotten the dim screen (all while the background was still in motion. The bubbles, etc) and no menu whatsoever as well as the cursor having disappeared. My apps were still shown in the background but there was nothing left for me to do except power off my Wii. It only happened once. I will further notify of any other glitches/bugs/things that should arise. Peachy 01:18a.m., 26 August 2008

Data Corruption

About a month and a half ago, I installed the HBC on my brother's Wii. He got Wii Fit on the 24th (two days ago). Today, he called me and reported the following problems with his Wii:

1) Wii Fit said the save file was corrupt 2) The Wii would not always boot up, and he had to restart 3) When he tried to start Mario Kart Wii, it froze, then he restarted the Wii and it worked

“When i try to make a new wii fit save, it says the wii save data is corrupted and i cant make a new save. If i go to check the wii save files in the menu, I can't access them. When I go to the Wii save files screen, the boxes representing the different games do not show up. It's like the screen is frozen before the boxes show up, abut I can move the pointer around.” - My brother

Re: It doesn't sound like HBC is the problem, but rather the save file corrupting during WiiFit. What have you used HBC for? Have you transferred any save files using programs through HBC? If not, it's just rather a coincidence and a bad save file. HBC doesn't control your games saves. Peachy 11:00a.m., 30 August 2008

SD Card not read

When I first downloaded Twilight Hack beta 1 to install the HBC, everything was fine. I used the easy homebrew installer to install the twilight hack/ homebrew channel. Once the Homebrew channel was on my Wii Menu, I downloaded the Ocarina app. I used the Wii cheat code manager to get cheats for Super Smash Bros Brawl (US) (RSBE01) When I put the cheats into the SD card, I inserted the card into my Wii. I loaded the Homebrew channel and the Ocarina App appeared on the menu. I started Ocarina, and activated the cheats. The Wii successfully read my SD card and activated the cheat list. When I accessed my stages on my SD card on Super Smash Bros Brawl on my Wii, the SD card symbol had a red "don't sign" in front of it. With my SD card inserted, I clicked on it. It said "Please insert the SD card." Please help me fix this problem, and fast. - Missing? NO!

In which respect could this possibly be a bug in Homebrew Channel? Please answer, and fast!!!110 --Drmr 03:44, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, it works when I don't use the Ocarina. -Missing? NO!

In that case, it's a bug in Ocarina, not Homebrew Channel.

Can you still help me? I'm despreate, I'm doing a series for YouTube!

-Missing? NO!

Try contacting whoever coded ocarina. Flark 02:36, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Problem Reading .elf files

When I downloaded the Homebrew browser it said that there was an update for the HBC, I did the update and now all of my .elf apps don't work anymore, when they try to load a red X appears and it says, "this is not a valid Wii application" What should I do and has this happened to anyone else?
