DVD-X
+
Could you tell me how you got the HBB to update it self?--HUN73R /\/\. 03:28, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
βˆ’
Does the DVD-X Installer download come with PatchMii so it can install the patchmii version for modchip users?  or is patchmii a seperate app you have to install altogether?
+
: It firstly connects to the internet and checks a text file which contains the file size of the boot.dol. If this file size doesn't match the size the user currently has then it prompts the user to update. Then it just downloads the new boot.dol and meta.xml files to the correct location. There is a download example here: Homebrew Browser#NetSend Example + HTTP Download Example
βˆ’
: PatchMii is a separate application for modchip users which can be found here: http://hackmii.com/2008/08/libdi-and-the-dvdx-installer/ --Teknecal 08:46, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Message Board
βˆ’
I quote this from the Homebrew Channel/Bugs page " but I prefer to leave my WiiConnect24 on, as I get messages from Nintendo and the Homebrew Browser, and I like to be notified when they arrive." Is it true that HBB gives out notices? If so I have yet to receive one. Pinball wizard 00:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

βˆ’
: Yes it's true but firstly you need to add hbb@codemii.com to your Wii address book. A few days later you'll get a confirmation email and then an email when applications have been updated. --Teknecal 08:42, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

βˆ’

The HBB used to work fine,, But i don't know what i did, patch mii dvdx maybe?(thats the only thing i can think of. but now the HBB doesn't work... it says connecting to server, server connected now loading homebrew browser and then it restarts homebrew channel. Or if it can't connect it says error (i am not home now so  am not sure but i think error-ret 115) and it says retrying (infinately until i get a code dump error.)

βˆ’
any Idea how i could fix this?

I have used this program successfully many time launched from the SD card. I now wish to move my HomeBrew to my USB Drive. My first attempt was to have a WBFS partition fist with a Fat32 second on the Drive. That did not work so I tried moving the Fat32 to the first partition. That started to work but each time I Download an App the Wii crashes with a Stack Dump... Can this app run from a Fat32 partition of a USB Drive? Secondly with the WBFS as the second partition my WiiFlow USB loader would not see my files. But that is for another PAGE.--capple123 02:10, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Homebrew Channel Banner updating with latest Homebrew
+
Suggestions/Comments
βˆ’
This is a bit of a lot to ask and probably not possible due to the Homebrew Channel developers lack of openness, but I think it would be cool if the Homebrew Browser would update the Homebrew Channel's banner according to new Homebrew apps, similar to the Wii Shop Channel. I do not expect this to actually happen but just to get a suggestion out there just in case :). --Mjbauer95 00:41, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

: The difficulty with this is extra code (not too difficult, mind) would have to be added in order for it not to crash if you forgot to insert the SD card. :: You won't see a channel version anytime soon, since there's no legal way to make a channel. I noticed the other day that the cursor's hotspot doesn't rotate correctly with the cursor itself.  For example, if I rotate the cursor 90deg CCW the hotspot will be slightly above the finger instead of on its tip.  I figure this is just an issue with setting the hotspot's pivot point.  -- MetaFight 19:14, 09 March 2009 (UTC)

βˆ’
: Yes, I really go to get that sorted, anyone have some code which does so? --Teknecal 07:35, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

βˆ’
:: Actually, I think I stated the problem incorrectly.  The hotspot itself shouldn't move during a pure rotation.  Instead, the cursor should simply rotate around the hotspot.  I'm pretty sure this is how most apps handle it.  So, for example, if the hotspot is (cursor.X + 5, cursor.Y + 5), the cursor should rotate around (5, 5).  I don't know if I'm being clear.  I'm pretty bad at explaining these things. -- MetaFight 18:59, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

βˆ’
::: Yes, it does make sense. I think the easiest way would be to do as Squidman suggested to me, just double the image height and make the hotspot the middle, that way when rotated the hotspot will always be correct. --Teknecal 08:09, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I am currently using a Wii with 3.2 firmware, and homebrew channel beta 8. I have installed and gotten plenty of apps to work fine, however I have never been able to get this application to work.  It just says that it cant initialize with the network.  Opera works fine, weather channel, wii connect 24, and the Homebrew channel had updated automatically when I installed beta 7.  Is there are a port you would recommend opening up on my router to try and solve this issue.  I have a feeling my routers firewall is blocking it.  Its an actiontec wifi router that comes standard with verizon fios.

When im starting homebrew browser, everything goes right till the requesting homebrew list appears.
βˆ’
:The Homebrew Browser uses HTTP on port 80 to get all of the data... So unless port 80 is blocked by your firewall, I don't think that's the issue. However, I have heard of other people having this same issue without resolution. Can I ask specifics about how your Network connection is set up on the Wii? If you add an app to queue then open up the "Download/Delete Queue" page, the app you selected will be there. I also use a USB-HDD with a FAT32 on the 1st partition, with no SD Card whatsoever (my card slot is defective), and I noticed that HBB takes several minutes to update all the app icons. :::: I think it's because of the free space function as it uses statvfs("usb:/",&fiData) to get the block size, blocks free and blocks total. Could you tell me how you got the HBB to update it self?--HUN73R /\/\. 03:28, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

It firstly connects to the internet and checks a text file which contains the file size of the boot.dol. If this file size doesn't match the size the user currently has then it prompts the user to update. Then it just downloads the new boot.dol and meta.xml files to the correct location. There is a download example here: Homebrew Browser#NetSend Example + HTTP Download Example

Homebrew Browser Channel

I haven't done much lately with this but now I have a working compiler again so the installer is getting closer. The channel on the other hand is killing me. I am stuck with getting weird debug info like HBB used to give. Any help on how to read those Teknecal? Pinball wizard 01:19, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Does it say like debug [1] Not owner? I think that the fix is to format the SD card. --Teknecal 13:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
It isn't debug info I put it wrong. I meant to say Code Dumps. It looks to be all hex code. Check your pms too. Pinball wizard 19:06, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
The installer is getting closer. I have all the code checking out okay but I think that my development environment is having problems. Closer now though. Still have the channel issues. Hoping to maybe release before I die, lol. Pinball wizard 19:35, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm now doing debugging on the installer. If I can figure the channel issue out and approval from Teknecal, I should release soon.*@Teknecal, The issue with the channel is that it shows the kind of code dump as what you have at the end of your 1 year anniversary video. I am going to add in some debug code to see if it is the channel launch code or HBB code. Do you know what IOS HBB runs on? Pinball wizard 20:39, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm cleaning up code for the installer now, commenting out debug info and about to lock down the installer to the final channel pieces now instead of anything you want. I need to put some placeholder logo spots and finish recoding the code for the channel. I have a list of testers and should be ready to beta test in a week. @Teknecal, Don't worry about anything with your app just yet. I think I found the issue in the channel launching check your pms for details on it. After beta tests I will shoot you up for approval and I should have release 1.0 out very soon. Pinball wizard 02:48, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

What's up with this? I'd love to have this as a channel, it'd save a step. Dashxdr 03:59, 13 October 2010 (CEST)

No idea what happened with it. Teknecal 09:44, 31 October 2010 (CET)

Search

Umh... There is so many apps available, and no search. Search would be really useful! --Error 14:17, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

I'll do something like searching by letter, e.g. A, B, C will bring you directly to those applications. --Teknecal 04:55, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Better distinguish between downloaded/HBB apps

It would be possible, meta.xml being an xml file, to insert extra fields into it, without too many things exploding, surely. For instance, it could be possible to insert some hbb specific fields, for instance: <hbb:repository>lukegb</hbb:repository> <hbb:downloaded>true</hbb:downloaded> <hbb:lastversion>xyzabc</hbb:lastversion>

Update all apps

There should be an option to update all apps, and perhaps also an option to turn off the Wii afterwards. This way I can hit the button and go to bed with no worries.--SkiDragon 13:00, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

How come some themes don't show up in the repository? --Abeckring 04:39, 2 September 2010 (CEST)
I just have to add the rest that were added to WiiBrew since about 1-2 weeks ago which I'll do in the next day or so. --Teknecal 10:35, 2 September 2010 (CEST)
Is there any possibility of putting themes in that aren't allowed on wiibrew? --Abeckring 23:34, 11 September 2010 (CEST)

File Size Adjustment?

Somehow this always confuses me but before I download Homebrew it tells me the size of the Homebrew app and then when I download it, it tells me the download is smaller than what I saw previously. I then figured out that the download is zipped and the file size in the description is the extracted size. Maybe use this format in the description instead? Queue Bug? RECEIVED

I found a minor bug that you could fix in 0.3.9. If you add an app to queue then open up the "Download/Delete Queue" page, the app you selected will be there. But if you delete it from the list (By pressing -) and open the Download/Delete Queue page again, the name and short description will still be there, but not the icon. Again a very minor bug, but one that should be fixed. Keep up the good work!--Jrcolonial98 19:30, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

USB-HDD works, but icon download is extremely slow compared to SD RECEIVED

I also use a USB-HDD with a FAT32 on the 1st partition, with no SD Card whatsoever (my card slot is defective), and I noticed that HBB takes several minutes to update all the app icons. On a friend's Wii, I could see that this process takes only a few seconds, but unlike me, his HBB is in his SD Card. This has been like this since the days of HBB 0.3.5, and as of HBB 0.3.8, it hasn't changed. In spite of this, HBB works as expected, and code dumps are rare, but do occur, occasionally. --Friiloader 23:53, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Something Horribly Wrong

Nothing works at all as of today (7 November 2010). Doesn't function properly on 2 different Wii's, writing to SD or to USB drive. Updates seem to be coming from an incorrect server and are out of date, and don't even extract properly. Functionality utterly broken at the moment. Dashxdr 18:29, 7 November 2010 (CET)

Not sure what the underlying cause is. When I try to update Pacman through the HBB it installs 1.01, not the latest 1.03. Dashxdr 22:12, 7 November 2010 (CET)
Seems like pacman was under the folder "Pacman", I changed it back and it should work now. --Teknecal 09:51, 8 November 2010 (CET)
That fixed it, thanks. Was the issue on my end? When I upload a new zipfile, should the directory be named "pacman" and not "Pacman"? Anyway feel free to delete this entire incident from this talk page. Dashxdr 13:41, 8 November 2010 (CET)
The issue was on our server. In this case, yep you should zip it up as "pacman" but I'll always double check folders from now on. --Teknecal 10:50, 9 November 2010 (CET)
One other note, the HBB seems to scan the VFAT partition on my USB hard drive before it does anything. I've got thousands of files on it so it takes a LONG time. It would be great if this "feature" could be turned off. HBB ought to just snoop around the apps tree and nothing else. Dashxdr 20:14, 8 November 2010 (CET)
I think it's because of the free space function as it uses statvfs("usb:/",&fiData) to get the block size, blocks free and blocks total. You can turn this off in Settings -> Show SD card space & Check free space. Just to confirm does this happens when HBB first loads the GUI? Let me know if turning off those settings helps? Also is there a quicker way than using statvfs? --Teknecal 10:50, 9 November 2010 (CET)
You're right, turning off the check free space + show free space fixes the long pause when the HBB is first launched. But still for some reason there is a long delay during the extraction of any downloaded app, no matter how small. I'm just using a USB hard drive, there is no SD card installed at all. Dashxdr 13:39, 9 November 2010 (CET)
