One other thing -- if your geometrical mathematics skills are up to it, I reckon you could fairly easily make the map feel like a globe. You'd need to make a black mask for it with a transparent circular window in the middle through which the map could be seen, complete with faded edges around the map area to create the illusion of a vanishing point (sort of). Then, you'd need to (and this is the mathematical bit) work out an algorithm for 'bulging' the map in certain areas in keeping with the illusion of having created a sphere. Nearer the middle, a 4x4 block of pixels might be magnified by a certain factor, and this factor would be reduced from the centre of the circle outwards to the edge. Upon the user zooming in, eventually the mask would disappear, and the bulging effect would become negligible. Let me know what you think. (and p.s: ignore what people are saying about adding a UI.
