So that if the image changes you only need to change it here, not on every page that uses it. It also makes it easier to use, as you don't have to do things like scale the image manually on each page - it's just set once here. -- karaken12 20:04, 10 May 2008 (PDT)

You do know that it's possible to upload new versions of images, right? And I honestly think that if any template should be used, it should be a more generic one that does all the feature icons in one template.--henke37 00:26, 11 May 2008 (PDT)

While it would be nice to have a template along the lines of {{wiimote|2}} or {{controls|gcn}} this is harder than it looks, believe me. That said, if you can create such a template, go for it. Personally I think these templates are an excellent idea - they're easy to use and give the release pages a consistent, professional feel.
