Talk:Updating IOS by hand
Updating from the disc channel
I updated using AC:CF in the disc channel and all it did was install IOS38, and not any of the updated IOSes. I'm not sure if it is because I used the IOS downgrader previously or just because all AC:CF needs is the IOS38. --Bg4545 23:00, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
I have a PAL Wii 3.4 and I have 2 US AC:CF discs written, one is RegionFrii'd, one isn't and I have been following http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Updating_IOS_by_hand Because if I run the game through Gecko OS the ingame clock does not advance. I just reached step 4 and have moved the IOS38-64-v###.wad into the folder, but I'm hesitant about doing the next step. If you install a NTSC update on a PAL Wii it bricks right? Well If I install this IOS38-64-v###.wad with the WAD manager, will it brick? --Lord Landshark
- it wont brick. ios files are not region locked (yet)yossi 09:31, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Uncorrect information on the page
I post it here on the talk page, because i don't want a edit war.
Here's how i think it's correct:
[...]
The Disc Channel will only let you start Animal Crossing: City Folk if the version of the installed system menu is equal or higher than the one on the disc and an IOS38 is installed. If one of both conditions isn't fulfilled, the disc channel will ask to update.
[...]
- At this point, you may be able to load the game disc through the Disc Channel. If it still displays "Wii System Update", you can either block disc updates with Starfall or preloader, or you can use Gecko OS to start it.
[...]
PS: I thought WAD Manager is an application not wanted here. Is WadImport able to install IOS wads? I don't want to test it, i don't like closed source software without detailed information available.

- All your changes are correct. Back when this was first worked out, wad manager was the only way to do it. Now there are better solutions (WadImport, GeckoOs 1.8). Notice how there is no link to wad manager, it was just a necessary evil. Yossi 20:03, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
