What is recovery mode?

Is this Maintenance Mode, SaveMii mode, or WiiConnect24 title boot mode? Hallowizer (talk) 00:04, 16 December 2021 (CET)

I think it's the SaveMii mode, but I'm not 100% sure. I vaguely recall seeing a separate state machine for SaveMii mode (messages "WikikiSlot A" and "WikikiSlot B" (note that the SaveMii website misspells this as "Waikiki") are logged either in or immediately before it) but I'm not sure if it's this. I don't think Maintenance Mode has a dedicated state machine, and am not sure about WiiConnect24 (that might not use the system menu at all, and instead just directly launch the title; I've never looked into it). --Pokechu22 (talk)

Waikiki is probably the correct spelling. Strings in the factory logs say Waikiki, and Nintendo leaves a lot of typos in their debug strings. Hallowizer (talk) 21:43, 16 December 2021 (CET)

Good point; I haven't looked at any factory stuff myself, but "wi" is not something that fits normal Japanese rules, so "wai" would make sense. (There is no single kana for the sound that is still in modern use (see wi (kana) for the old one); instead it's "ui" / "ウィ"; "wai" looks very similar in katakana ("waikiki" is "ワイキキ"; "wikiki" is "ウィキキ").) Of course, given the name of the console, it's entirely possible that they did spell it with "wi"; it'd require a more thorough examination. --Pokechu22 (talk) 20:06, 17 December 2021 (CET)
