Workaround for Menu 3.4/4.0?

Can't you just delete the IOS9 copy with AnyTitle Deleter or a WAD manager? I did it and see no adverse side effects. -- Xero 23:16, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes you can, and then install a custom IOS. If you had not worked around the blocks in 3.4/4.0 though, you would get an error. --Dan11495 01:13, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

"Some pirate tools installed a hacked IOS as IOS254"

That's new to me. I only know of PatchMii and BootMii IOS installation that they are installed as IOS254. PatchMii allows people with modchips to use DVDX, so it's a pirate tool??? The IOS254 page needs a serious update(or to be removed...), i won't do it, because i don't think i'm in the position to do that. And also i don't want to start an edit-war. --WiiPower 01:35, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

This is something entirely different. Several illegitimate pirate-favored patching tools/region changers/downgraders will install IOS254 (and several other IOSes) as a patched IOS that they can exploit; the most memorable instance of this is one such patcher (whose name escapes me) which writes a new IOS254 and uses it to overwrite every other IOS for maximum compatibility, a method which is not only dishonorable because of its intended purpose but also very heavy-handed and possibly system-damaging. Fortunately, none of these tools should be necessary for the everyday Homebrew user, and most proper IOS-modifying tools should never run into issues with BootMii installed. --Szalkow 00:59, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, but name ONE piracy tool that installs as IOS254. Installing PatchMii for DVDX in combination with modchips is the only piracy related use of IOS254 that i know of. Pirates use an IOS that is installed as IOS249, and that IOS is not blocked by nintendo. Btw, the people with all IOS replaced by piracy IOS install them via IOS wads and not via a patcher. It is a massive violation of nintendo's copyright already by its installation. --WiiPower 08:33, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Possible Brick via IOS254?

I have a Wii, system menu version 4.3U, with BootMii installed as IOS254. I see on the page it's been stubbed to eliminate BootMii. I recently uninstalled HBC via System Menu delete function. If I updated, could I be bricked? If so, is there any way to uninstall it safely? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Austeon347 (talkcontribs)

No you won't brick from an update. --wiisixtyfour 01:46, 18 December 2010 (CET)
