Number of Release Entries

Right now it's 5. But the news section takes up more room than that. This wastes some space below the releases box, no matter what resolution you're on. This is bad. Either: 1) decrease the news 2) increase the number of releases. I vote to increase the # of releases displayed on the page to 6 or 7. --Tantric 23:19, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Waninkoko's Releases

I believe Waninkoko's releases should be listed as they are note-worthy releases of homebrew applications. I know there is tension between some of the members of WiiBrew, including some of the staff, and Waninkoko but this does not make his releases any less useful. I do not believe, however, that they should simply be added back without discussion and possibly approval by a sysop. --Hiker13526 23:43, 7 May 2008 (PDT)

In the future, before removing valid releases from the news page, the matter should be discussed on the talk page. I am replacing the news articles as they are now known to be allowed. No, this is not a personal issue with him. I believe the clear lack of any kind of testing or quality control on his apps causes a problem in regard at least as far as "main page" worthiness and risk goes. We're all fairly well aware of the fact that his apps are rushed out for credit-grabbing, without any due care and attention given to the risks posed or any real testing whatsoever. It's a technical issue.

This was removed because I recall someone mentioning on the channel last night that it was possible a "broken" or somehow damaged save (I think the term "half copied" was used) could cause users potentially serious problems when copied back to the Wii.

I myself am not particularly an expert when it comes to how the save system works in regard to potential dangers posed, but given the known lack of quality control and theoretical risk, along with the lack of information on any risk/disclaimers, it did not seem wise to be seen supporting this app on the front page (by all means in Homebrew Apps with some appropriate notes).

Better safe than sorry when it comes to users machines, right? Wiibrew is right now all there is in the way of "quality control" for homebrew. If an app is on here, it's only right that it should have been tested and the risks taken into account, and we know he isn't responsible enough in that regard. That is owed to the people who use this site as a measure of basic quality, which a lot of people do. -Stalkid64.

Thanks for the reply. I still think that even though they may not be as stable as other programs out there they are news-worthy. This is ridiculous -- edit wars are not cool. I think the big change that needed to be made was that release entries should point to pages on this Wiki, not directly to external sites. Then, discussion of the merits / safety of individual apps can happen there. The people that have these concerns should go to the (currently empty) talk pages for the links and we can hash this out there. Bushing 16:54, 8 May 2008 (PDT)

Bricking the Wii?

What does it mean for the Wii to be "bricked"? Does that mean like accidentally deleting important system files and therefore preventing your own Wii from booting? Or is this some technical copyprotection that prevents the Wii from playing games online through Nintendo-WiFi if ANY changes are made that are not authorized by Nintendo? Or does it mean that if you are online after you have made modifications, that Nintendo can actually send a command through the internet to your Wii which causes it to stop functioning (does Nintendo actually have the ability to actively kill your Wii console)?

Please tell me. I'm a noob as far as Wii homebrew stuff.

A modification to a device that permanently prevents it from operating yields a... Brick. Many references to this term can be found by searching. By no means is this term specific to the Wii. CarstenK 04:50, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

RSS Feed Problems

Whenever I click the link in my RSS Reader (Google Reader) to view the news article, the link always takes me to the Author's Talk page instead of the Homebrew App page. I feel this is backwards to what someone subscribing to an RSS feed would like. After all, one author could have many homebrew apps (such as Tantric and the multiple emulators). I think the RSS feed would be better if it linked to the homebrew application instead of the Author's Talk page. Deozaan 16:11, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Which timezone ?

Because I happen to release my apps around 01:00, I'd like to ask what timezone should be used for the date that is to be entered here ?

For example, (I live in UTC+1) 2009-01-21 01:00 is 2009-01-20 19:00 in Canada - which would collide with someone releasing from there. I propose using UTC. --Alanceil 00:41, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter. The dates are just there for a rough estimation of the release and to keep everything in chronological order. If you're really concerned about it, UTC would be the best option. --Blooper (Talk) 00:53, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Apps listed in New Releases multiple times

I propose that if an app gets an update when it's already in the list, the older release event should be archived immediately rather than having the same app appear multiple times e.g. currently the top 2 positions are "BoltThrower v0.59 released Titmouse now with radar ping :)" followed by "BoltThrower v0.58 released Titmouse". This doesn't really achieve anything besides bumping someone else's release and hogging the limelight. Tueidj 11:38, 10 July 2011 (CEST)
