General Talk

Has anyone actually tried this out yet? I'm curious to see the results (and I'm too chicken to do it myself). --SandMan 02:13, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Its safe if you have preloader or bootmii as a boot2 replacement installed, 100% safe (and HBC installed but thats almost given). A banner brick, which is what a faulty channel wad can give you (causes a banner crash on loading the system menu which crashes the system menu) can be completely fixed if you can autoboot into HBC, which all you need is bootmii as a boot2 replacement or preloader for. Then just run AnyTitle Deleter DB and delete the title ID you installed and your fine. Or you can use a WAD uninstaller tool to do the same thing but it is not promoted by Wiibrew in the slightest. (Illinialex24 03:21, 9 November 2009 (UTC))
"it is not promoted by Wiibrew in the slightest" - niether are any WAD installer tools, other than wadimport, which cannot be used to install custom channels made with this tool. i.e. there is no supported way to install these custom channels. --SifJar 11:12, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
so why is Channel Maker? --Leathl 14:02, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
ChannelMaker and this app itself are perfectly supported, there's just no supported way to install the channels made. If someone could somehow make an installer that would ONLY install custom channels, and not warezed vc/ww WADs, then it'd be OK, but I dont think thats possible, except if you convert the WAD of the custom channel into some new format and then have the installer convert it back and install it. But then you could just convert the warez WADs, so basically, its not possible. But the channels themselves and the channel creation tools are fine. --SifJar 14:53, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
You could just add two lines of code to the WAD M. source to check the number of contents before installing. If more than 3 contents are found, just return an error. --Leathl 19:02, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Interesting. Then a custom channel installer COULD be made. If someone made one of those, that could not install warez, and also was not heavily the code of a certain coder (I guess you know who), it should definetly be supported here. --SifJar 19:08, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, it could be made. I can't code in C though, so I can't do it (I can "read" and "edit" C, but not code on my own ;)) --Leathl 19:35, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Take a look at my Crap Installer, it's a simple hack to wad manager made to install a wad injected into the app.. It contains a stub wad (2MB file, all zeroes) Pc app injects the wad to be installed in it and can send this injected dol to homebrew channel for installation. By the way using wad manager for the purpose of installing nintendo-signed wads&custom wads are perfectly fine. Though as we know, it's not supported here :)
http://code.google.com/p/crapwii/source/browse/trunk/CrapInstaller/source/wad.c --I R on 23:11, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it could be an awesome project to do, and it would leave VC and Wiiware completely out and it would also stop everything but stubbed IOS's. It should come with protection though for IOS's, so we should also have it reject title ID's for IOS's and the system menu generically. So no stubs could be installed so it would no longer be a brick tool (or even have the possibility of doing such). (Illinialex24 15:55, 10 November 2009 (UTC))
Would be easy by checking the lower title ID first and only let 00010001 install. Bricks could of course still occur by installing bad WADs. --Leathl 16:51, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
You could make a special footer on the wad so the wad installer can check if the wad is custom. Also, if you look at a IMET header from nintendo, you can see a string or some other stuff there. you can use that space to add a signature too:). and you could pack it in a U8 archive instead of wad. and to make it even harder for pirates, the U8 archive must be without padding. i have read trough your code and it isn't too hard to remove the padding :). maybe even a special file that must be packed with the wad. the format could be called SIG and when its packed in the wad, you just place it in the footer ;).--pbsds 22:34, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Is this version 3.11 for Workgroups? --Unbibium 07:07, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Confusion

When you turn the apps into channels, does this store them within the system so you don't have to use an SD card anymore? For example, if I turn MPlayer CE into a channel, will this let me play DVDs (I do have DVDx) without putting in the SD card to start up the homebrew? -- Hyperman 23:42, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Basically, there's 2 types of channels, forwarders and full channels. A forwarder is like a shortcut on your desktop. When you launch the channel, there's a tiny DOL in it which has the only purpose to load the application-DOL from a pre-defined path on an SD Card or USB Device.
The full channel is what you want. It contains the whole application (thus takes more Wii memory), so you don't need an SD Card or USB Device to run an application. --Leathl 19:19, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
However, mPlayer CE accesses files outside its own .dol, so I dont believe it can be turned into a full channel that will work without an SD card inserted. I could be wrong about this though. --SifJar 18:31, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
I guess you're right. You will at least need an SD Card or USB Device. For all apps that are only a DOL a full channel will work :) --Leathl 19:19, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Wouldn't the forwarder type be the best type for most homebrew, since you wouldn't have to make a new wad every time a new update came out? Buddypepper 14:32, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Some prefer forwarders (like me), some prefer full channels. It's up to you, you can do both with the app --Leathl 21:34, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Requirements?

What sort of requirements are there for this to work? (ie, what version of System Menu, etc) Buddypepper 14:32, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

I guess a way to install custom channels ;) --Leathl 21:34, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Message from Leathl

I just felt I should put this on here Leathl, it's the message from WADder.

Quote from Leathl on WADder - "When you hit extract on the Banner/Icon tab, it may extract a random image, so better use Extract -> Images on the options tab. Edit: While investigating, I found out that it's only the Icon tab, it will extract the last selected banner tpl instead of the selected icon tpl." This only applies to CustomizeMii 2.2--HUN73R /\/\. 21:46, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Illegal?

Aren't base WADs illegal? --PZYR0 19:28, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

No, the ones you can download within the App are legal ones. --Leathl 19:35, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Help with banner.bin

I need help installing a banner.bin file for customize Mii.--Marth21 23:26, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but I don't get your drift.. What do you want to do? --Leathl 16:51, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
I need to create a banner, but i only get .png files. i cannot put png files as a banner.--Marth21 21:03, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Just select a TPL and use the 'Replace' button. If you want to insert a different banner.bin, use the Banner-Exchange down on the source Tab. --Leathl 01:39, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
I am pressing replace. but i still cannot create a vald banner. --Marth21 12:47, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
What's the issue then? Doesn't it work on the Wii or doesn't it create a WAD with the replaced images? I need more info --Leathl 21:08, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
I get a banner but is isn't a bin file. it is a png file. I try to press the browse button next to the banner thing on the front page and i get nothing. If i do get something, i cannot use it as a banner because it says the wad is "corupted." I don't beleive i did anything to corrupt it.
Is this enough info to help me? --Marth21 23:23, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
You won't get a banner.bin out of the App. The banner thingie on the Source tab is to insert a new banner.bin into the WAD, not to get a banner.bin out of it. If you wan't to change a banner, just replace the images and click onto the Create WAD button to get your WAD with a new banner in it. If you want to have the banner separately, you need to unpack the output WAD with any availabe unpack Tool. --Leathl 13:53, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Where can i find a banner.bin to download? If it is against the rules to say, please say so. --Marth21 16:09, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
There's one in every WAD file. You don't need one separately, just load a WAD and replace the images to create your own Banner. If you want another Animation / no Animation, just choose another base WAD.
The exchange features (at the bottom of the source tab) should only be used, if you want for example the banner from WAD A and the icon from WAD B (and sound from WAD C or whatever) --Leathl 00:11, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
so each wad seems to have different icon and banner sizes (picture dimensions). i have been messing around making my own channels, but replacing these files with files that are the same dimensions results in a resized one after making the wad. when i preview the .bin file in the wad in the program it shows the whole image, but after installed on the wii, it cuts off all edges. it appears that the icon cuts way more of the edges off then the banner. when im makeing a icon/banner is there an easyer way to see if my logo will fit on the wii, other then installing it, then going back to my logo and shrinking it more in the image? --:~Love the World~: 20:35, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
That's because there's something like a "mask" above the banner/icon image to make it look like a rounded rectangle (channel). Just leave some pixels space at the edges. After doing it 2-3 times you'll know how to do it that it fits the screen. --Leathl 23:25, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Reverse Program?

Is it possible that someone could make a program that does the opposite of what this one does, as in make WADs into Homebrew apps? --SandMan 19:47, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Maybe this page could help. --Crayon (talk) 20:09, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
There are apps available which unpack WADs, I think ShowMiiWads can do that. One of the files generated will be the .dol from the WAD. --SifJar 20:46, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
One easy way: Just unpack the WAD with any method. If it has 3 contents, the 00000000.app is where the banner, icon and sound live, the 00000001.app and 00000002.app are the DOL and the Nand Loader. For Apps, mostly the bigger file will be the DOL. You can be sure by either opening those files in a Hex Editor and look what the Headers look like or by getting the Boot Index out of the TMD (Offset 0x1E0). The Boot Index is the Nand Loader. --Leathl 21:13, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh and btw, the only WAD I can think of which ISNT available as a homebrew dol is a WAD version of HBC (which should not be available online), which would be kinda pointless to have a dol of. Anything else, it has been released as a dol first, THEN made into a channel. Just find the dol online. But I guess if you cant find it, unpack the WAD. --SifJar 22:07, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Isn't one of these WADs illegal? Or at least prohibited?

Isn't the backup channel wad illegal for use, or at least prohibited by the WiiBrew network? I thought, specifically in the IRC, all talk of any Backups, CIOS, etc, could result in banning. Not sure, just wanted to ask. I am only concerned of the Backup channel, the rest look ok...

[edit] Well, it looks like Uniiloader is a similar wad, being used for backups. I am not sure, but dont these deal with pirating? And I realize the full potential of backups, and I also realize that a true backup is not illegal, but who does true, legal backups?--Slyfox299 13:23, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, backups are definitely not supported here. There are other forums to talk about backups, but I cannot link to them here. --Gameboy13 13:36, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Backups arent supported here, and I guess it could be said this program downloads backup loaders, but it just gets a list of legal base WADs from a certain site and lets you donwload any of them, its not set in the program itself. So if that site hosts those WADs, you can download them. Its technically not up to the dev of this app. Also, the whole idea is to replace the .dol in the channel, so it wouldn't be a backup loader anymore anyway. --SifJar 19:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
There aren't even applications in the wads, but forwarders. They are there to use as a base for customization. Also, marcan gave his ok to Xuzz's ChannelMaker and this is similar. --Leathl 00:46, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

cant edit backup channel wad

After loading backup channel wad, you can edit it and save it just fine. but if you open the BRLAN tab (Even if you dont touch any thing in there) it wont save the wad. it gives this error when you try to make it. "Banne_loop.BRLAN is not a vaild brlan filename" --:~Love the World~: 19:06, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

That will be fixed in the next version. For now, just don't touch the brlan tab for any WAD where it happens ;) --Leathl 23:25, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

WADder is down

I can't help but notice, we cannot download any base WADs, wadder.net is moving! Just thought I should point it out. :|--Hunterm 22:04, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Quote from Leathl from another site "Since I'm not at home over christmas, I felt like releasing this before. Note that the base WAD downloading will not work because wadder.net is down. I will soon release a fixed version with (again) working base WAD downloading." --:~Love the World~: 06:21, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
The base WADs are now hosted on google code and can be dowloaded again (Version 2.01+) --Leathl 20:34, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Would this be possible?

Would it be possible to have this program convert brylt and brlan files into usable formats instead of just extract as they are? So users do not also have to use benzin if they wish to edit these files? It might not be possible, but it'd be very nice if it was possible. --SifJar 22:22, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

That will probably never happen, cause I won't go and rewrite benzin :D. I wanted to integrate functions that use benzin.exe, so you would still need benzin, but don't have to convert the files yourself, but since SquidMan said no I won't do, sorry... --Leathl 22:21, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Aw. Oh well, its not too hard to use Benzin anyway. --SifJar 11:06, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

IOS Number

When transmitting what should the IOS number be? Any IOS number that's not used? --Mjbauer95 00:06, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

An IOS with fakesigning bug (i.e. trucha bug) in it I assume. --SifJar 11:06, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
IOS 249 is good if you have it installed. But this is something you must experiment by yourself as you are the one who sould know which IOSes you have on your wii :)--pbsds 12:57, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
Woulden't he be able to use tona's cIOS PatchMii Installer? Wankoko's cIOS is not exactly looked upon well here...--HUN73R /\/\. 18:44, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

How to get it on Linux?

Hello, I'd like to run CustomizeMii on linux, but I have no idea what to do, a basic guide would help me :) LuciusMare 16:51, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Music Bug

When I try to convert a .wav to a BNS, sometimes it says that it is not a .wav or something. Also, I can not get the banner music to loop. Please fix this.
