Thank God that this works after the 4.2 update. --PotentialExperience
- This will probably work forever AFAIK. Nintendo cannot modify the contents of Wii game discs. They also can't legally modify the contents of SD Cards. --Gameboy13 19:55, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Correct. But sign your comments ;). Xuzz 02:07, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I'm sure Nintendo will try deleting Smash Stack from SD cards. Thing is, how can they delete it from the SD card when we can put the card in -after- the System Menu exits? They'd have to be a lot more clever then they are right now to kill this. Kmeisthax 21:56, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- Cleaver like us? Let's think of what kinds of applications we have that keeps running after something else is booted. Yup, it's possible.--henke37 12:11, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Possible? Sure. Probable? Doubt it. At most, some ingenious coder (Probably good old Comex) will probably find some way to block Nintendo from the SD card. -- Hyperman 20:00, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- BLOCK NINTENDO FROM THE SD CARD? YOU MEAN LIKE FLIPPING THE READ-ONLY SWITCH ON THE SD CARD? Momentum 04:18, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

- They could release a new version which corrects that problem. It will not change the old version, but the newer versions could have the exploit removed.Ness and Sonic 21:06, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
So this ONLY works with the US NTSC game? Not EU/AUS PAL game? Damn. --Master5o1 02:03, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, it would be useful to have an unpatchable exploit for PAL Wiis too Crundy 20:08, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sure if it was an issue comex could release a new version Xuzz 05:12, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- A bit of a bump but PAL would make hacking 99% UNBEATABLE. I also really need it cuz I have 4.3. --Sade1212 Hi. 18:06, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- Please make one for PAL !!!. --tboss 12:15, 19 August 2010
Exception
I get a weird exception error or code dump when trying to load Smash Stack. Any help, I'd thank you. Mp3c 05:20, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Sources
Why not open source? Don't tell me to make it hard for Nintendo who have great debugging facilities to discover the bug. Decrypted the stuff, it's clear from the binary that it uses twilight hack's sources. Maybe someone can work on the PAL version of this if it was open source. I R on 21:17, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Best exploit?
What is the highest version this can work on? What is the exploit that works on the highest version?
Actually works on any NTSC or NTSC-J version.--tboss, Wii 4.3, waiting for PAL Smash Stack... 09:20, 16 October 2010 (CEST)
SDHC compatible?
It does not say if SDHC cards will work. Can anyone confirm or deny if they do work so we can update accordingly? --HACKhalo2 16:04, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- SDHC cards don't work in Brawl (or other older games that read SD cards). The page says, Peripherals
, not
. --bg4545 22:49, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Disc damage?
I used this yesterday and it worked. Today, I got a message saying it was unable to read the Brawl disc before it started up. Did it damage the disc, or does the lens/disc just needs to be cleaned again? My Wii's system menu is 4.2 American and I got it new December 25, 2007.Ness and Sonic 14:38, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Nevermind, it started working again after I cleaned the lens. It is a weird coincidence that my Wii had problems with Super Smash Brother Brawl after I used Stack Smash.Ness and Sonic 00:04, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
IOS error message
when the 4.2 update was released i was stipid and hit update, then my wii got bricked. I sent my wii in to nintendo for $85 and got it back today. Now i am excellent with the homebrew installer and used smashstack to use the latest hackmii elf file. Also my wii is in the usa ntsc version. Once it was loaded up it said "There is no known vurnable IOS on the wii" so i guess nintendo put some new IOS on my wii when i sent it in so that i can not mod it again. If anybody can help me please do. User:TH3 GUITAR H3R0 18:44, 29 June 2010
- I assume you now have System Menu 4.3. All you have to do is wait for the next HackMii Installer. Also, this has nothing to do with Smash Stack other than you ran it. --bg4545 04:23, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Balanced Brawl
Someone has made a version of this exploit which works with NTSC and PAL [1]. I don't have SSBB so I can't test it. Anyone with a PAL console and disk who can give it a go and see if it works? Crundy 12:58, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think this does the same thing as Smash Stack. From what I can see, it just loads custom textures for characters in Brawl. Phlum 17:56, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, all I can see is that it has Bannerbomb in it and there isn't any kind of Smash Stack. --bg4545 19:43, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Just following up, the PAL archive for Balanced Brawl contains only Bannerbomb. The NTSC archive contains Smash Stack and the Twilight Hack. I can only assume that the directions shown are for NTSC only and for PAL you must use Bannerbomb. --bg4545 04:13, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Bugger. I knew it was some kind of custom texture hack, but I assumed they had modded the hack to get it to work on PAL systems. Oh well. Still no news of a PAL version then I take it? For PAL users on 4.3 it's only Indiana Pwns that still works now. Crundy 13:42, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
.elf file
I'm unsure if I'm supposed to place the entire hackmii installer folder into the root of the SD card, or ONLY boot.elf. Could someone tell me?
Also, this works on 4.3U, right? Using hackmii v0.7? OzzyOzrock 03:35, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Just the "boot.elf" --bg4545 04:09, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

PAL/Korean version
User Pune on irc have made a PAL/Korean version of the exploit. He is currently not in the mood for releasing it. He claims that he is waiting on something secret.--henke37 21:34, 25 February 2011 (CET)
