Do I need that one text file to use gecko OS?

Revision as of 14:44, 16 April 2009

Ha.

That beats datel's. Bletotum

Source?

Would love to see source for this. I've been wanting to make a remote debugger sort of app like this has, but not using USB Gecko. Having this to refer to would really help. 198.166.12.229 21:21, 17 April 2008 (PDT)

Luckily for you, yesterday Nuke uploaded the code to the USB Gecko Fourms and I added a link to it on the page! theDuck 13:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Ocarina doesn't work with brawl

I load the game, and says "Please insert the Super Bros. Brawl Disc". PAL Launch Wii, US Brawl.

Go ask for help here: http://wiird.l0nk.org/wp/ It has a forum where you can get assistance. Flark 21:06, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Would this work?

Would this 2 gb usb flash memory drive serve as a usb gecko?

Bletotum

No. A USB Gecko plugs into the Game Cube memory slot.Felix123 15:05, 18 April 2008 (PDT)

Support Question?

Some people on Tehskeen have been asking-- does it need a modchip, and can you boot backups with this?

You need a drivechip for copied games. You don't need a chip for original games. 130.237.152.216 20:09, 19 April 2008 (PDT)

Problems

I've tried it with two games now, and when the Wii restarts it just hangs on a blank screen, no sound, doesn't appear to be doing anything, even though the light is on. PAL Wii, latest version, Component cable @ 480p, SMG and LoZ:TP tried. Does it matter if I'm using games from my own region, as I don't have any imports?

Gecko OS doesn't work with the last HomeBrew Channel release (beta 9) (because of the ELF issue ?) --Zaccret 10:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Ok, just go to the official forum (see the link in the article) and follow the link "Gecko OS and new HBC - read here!" --Zaccret 09:28, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Ignores update partition

Does this mean that Gecko Region Free cannot cause (semi-)bricked Wiis from discs that update firmware on the incorrect region of the Wii? If it's safe, I would probably be interested in using this to import some games... --Chungy 23:50, 26 May 2008 (PDT)

According to http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=105323 it does ignore update partitions. So it is completely safe to use this with any disc. Niohubala 22:00 2 July 2008 (GMT +2)

GameCube?

Does this work with imported GameCube games? Also, since it can now be run from the HBC, does this mean it can be run off an SD card instead of the Gecko Loader?

It does not work with GC games. You can run it via the homebrew channel however you like; originally it didn't work with the Gecko Loader, only the TP hack. The Gecko in the name is a bit of a misnomer, it is just because it has more features (eg screenshots) with the USB Gecko. Muzer 21:15, 24 June 2008 (CEST)
It now works with GC games. I am able to run a US (NTSC) game on my PAL console. --Zaccret 11:08, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Gecko OS

Should this be moved to Gecko OS? Felix 06:53, 28 June 2008 (CEST)

I agree with Felix, can someone make the changes?. spnorth 17:33, 28 July 2008 (CST)
I agree too

Unsigned Games and the new Wii Update

My Wii is modchipped, but 2 games in particular I play are a DVD5 of SSBB (I own the game, but the DVD5 runs better than the DVD9) and I have the review copy (AO rated) version of Manhunt 2, which wasn't signed. I use the Gecko OS to play these games because if I stick them in the Wii even with my modchip, the Wii rejects them immediately. I was wondering if the new Wii update would affect the ability to play these games?

Also does the Gecko OS interfere with the system clock? every time I save the game, it has the same date and time from like 3 years ago, and I think it affects gameplay because sometimes my character will go into a haven't touched wiimote do some funky pose state, and won't wake up for a couple of seconds.--DaveyDucati 16:53, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Convert AR Codes ?

Hello ! I'm interested by the Ocarina function of this program, but the Code library given by USB Gecko is not very huge. I saw than you can convert codes from Action Replay, but how could we do ? Thanks. --Quizzman 17:28, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

GeckoOS Color Fixed

Hi. I have color problems when I play Blast Works NTSC on my PAL Wii (I even bought a RGB-Cable, this changed black-and-white to red-and-white). So I would like to try out GeckoOS Color Fixed, but your link only goes to Gecko 2.0-advertisings. Am I able to download GeckoOS Color Fixed? --Woku 13:02, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

HELP!!

i have wii 3.4u with gecko os, and my rebooter doesn't work! Why is that?

Rebooter just doesn't work on 3.4. --Bg4545 02:40, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Help2 i have no clue how to do this on my wii do you download onto an sd card the its there on your wii when you put the card in? and does this work for SDHC cards? = Drettig101

In order to run Gecko OS from the homebrew channel you have to create a folder for Gecko OS on your sd card under /apps/, and copy the boot.dol there like /apps/GeckoOS/boot.dol. If the package you picked contains a meta.xml and icon.png, you can copy them there too, but these files are optional. All other files are most likely the source code or release notes. For loading Ocarina from sdhc cards you need one of the sdhc versions. --WiiPower 07:35, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Source is missing for 1.8

Where's the source code for Gecko OS 1.8? If it's based on Gecko OS 1.07b, it's licensed under GPL v2 too. --WiiPower 07:40, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok it seems that Gecko OS 1.8 is based on the cancelled Gecko OS 2.0. Gecko OS 2.0 is said to be nearly completely new written. And both Nuke and brkirch don't want to release the new Gecko OS as open source, because it would be used by pirates then. --WiiPower 08:54, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
If it contains any code from the previous gpl'd version, then the new source must also be released under the gpl. So a nearly complete re-write is not enough. It must be 100% re-written in order to allow the app to be closed source. At least that is my understanding. Correct me if I am wrong. --Flark 00:37, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
The original author (in this case Nuke) is free to re-license his application under whatever license he likes to as long as all contributors agree. And exactly this has happened here: Nuke no longer wants to keep this opensource and all other people who contributed agreed. --Svpe 08:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Exactly, pirates would just want the features from 1.8 incorporating into the wii backup loader, it's their decision to keep it closed source, (for now) at the moment brkirch said. Based on GeckoOS 2.0 which was mostly rewritten and therefore not GPL. Djdynamite123 00:25, 16th April 2009 (UTC)

SDHC

Now that it has been updated, does it work with sdhc? I didn't see anything about it in the changelog. --Flark 13:52, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
