This article is about Bluetooth technology in general. If you want detailed information about Bluetooth communication between the Wii and Wiimote, see Bluetooth Specs.
See BlueZ for documentation on the Linux Bluetooth drivers.
See List of Working Bluetooth Devices for a list of Bluetooth hardware that work with the Wiimote.

Bluetooth is the technology that is used for communication between the Wii and the Wiimote. It is an industrial specification that is used primarily in close proximity wireless devices, such as cell phones and the Wiimote.

The Bluetooth is an unlicensed specification[citation needed] that can be used on various platforms, such as PCs, Macs, and Linux (via the BlueZ stack).

Wiimote

The Wiimote communicates with the Wii via Bluetooth. The Wii is able to communicate with up to 4 Wiimotes, although the specification does allow more devices to connect. Various programs and "Wiimote Drivers" have been created for the computer that allows interaction with the Wiimote as a pointing device.
