The Open Shop Channel is a project to have more updated apps and better support than the Homebrew Browser.
History
The Open Shop Channel was originally intended to be a replacement for the now defunct Wii Shop Channel. This meant having to decompile the Wii Shop Channel and editing it. This, however, proved difficult and the developers were losing interest to go further in this. This led to instead modifying the Homebrew Browser's source and updating it to have more up-to-date apps and more apps as well. Since its release as an updated Homebrew Browser, it has grown to having more apps than the original Homebrew Browser, and having updated versions of the apps in the Homebrew Browser.
On 03/06/2021, they revealed on Twitter that they were working on the scrapped idea to be a replacement for the now defunct Wii Shop Channel.
On 2024-04-21 the project repository on github was archived.
