Doom?

I thought WAD was a Doom format. So I guess we won't get any ports of Doom engine games on Wii Shop Channel. --Tepples 08:19, 20 May 2008 (PDT)

Same extension, nothing else is similar. In doom, wad stands for "Where's all the data?" but in the wii it just means a wad of stuff, which means the ticket, banner and content. Muzer 09:16, 20 May 2008 (PDT)
I was wondering. I thought it might have been an Acronym for something, like Wii.. archive... data... something. --Phred 22:46, 20 May 2008 (PDT)
I think that is correct 83.116.101.100 09:20, 21 May 2008 (PDT)

Certs

Hey, I've been looks at the .CERT files for some WAD files. First off, I legally obtained the files off of my own disks, and used a homebrew wad for the second one. The update WAD I looked at was a little different from the homebrew one. On line 1EE of my hex editor, the first byte is 1A. In the homebrew one it is 9C. Could this mean that the update wads are signed by a different cert than the ones we make (using common-key)? Maybe they are signed with the "Dev certs"? Talk please ;) -Rsrockerz 04:27, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Legal WADs

Is there any legal way to install WADs on the Wii? --Mjbauer95 21:29, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Check WadImport. --Crayon (talk) 21:37, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
What about for channels that you don't own but have been legally created? --Mjbauer95 23:27, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
WAD Manager is legal, it is just unsupported here because it can be used for warez. It would apparently be fairly easy to add checks to make sure the WAD is a custom channel and not warez, just make sure that there are only three contents before installation. --SifJar 23:26, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

It says "WADs, backups, and other warez are strictly prohibited. Users who violate this rule will be blocked." does this include say a WAD of Neogamma, since Neogamma is a homebrew? What about the CIOS WADs, are those good or not?

Any backup loader is unsupported here, and cIOS WADs are completely illegal as they redistribute copyrighted Ninty IOS. Work it out your self. --SifJar 23:26, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, what about a WAD for the homebrew channel? What I meant was, WADs themselves aren't against the rules, but the content in most WADs are. (When I said my last comment I didn't know that you couldn't talk about Backup Loaders here even though they don't have copyrighted code, so that was a bad example, I want to have Savegame Manager on my Wii's Channel menu, would asking for a WAD of that be against the rules?)
Legal WADs are only wads for nintendo software you obtained via a legal way(NUS Downloader or wufe) for yourself. Ok, if these WADs are legal in all countries is questionable. Also WADs that contain 0 code from nintendo, such as custom channels with homebrew nand loader, own images, sounds and of course a homebrew app included are legal. Only legal WADs would be allowed at WiiBrew, but you have to subtract the WADs for stuff that is related anyhow to backup loading or other illegal stuff. Even if the software itself would be legal, it would still be not wanted here. And a HBC WAD may be legal, but only if you extracted it yourself, you are not allowed to share it with others. --WiiPower 03:26, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
That's what I thought. Legal WADs would be allowed, but the text just says WADs. How come backup loaders aren't allowed here even though they aren't illegal? Wouldn't the HBC WAD be the same file regardless of who extracted it?
Backup loaders are not allowed here because MOST people using them download their "Backups". then all the sudden, bam, you have another gbafail.--Hatredg0d 23:08, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
It's a free world, and WiiBrew has the freedom to choose what to allow and what not. If you don't agree with it, don't do anything here. It's not that hard to understand, if a wad is illegal due to the method it was created(modded nintendo channel) or due to it's nature(illegal software), it's not allowed here. And also everything that is related to "backups" and "VC/WiiWare "backups"" is not wanted here. And a HBC wad is legal to have, if you extracted it yourself(maybe not even then), but definatively illegal to upload. It would be copyright violation, the fact that you get it for free does not mean you own it. And please start signing your posts. --WiiPower 23:17, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Wad Installer

Read this, before you kill me.

I am in the process of creating a wad installer that will only install forwarder wads created with CustomizeMii and some other HOMEBREW ONLY wads. So what do you think of this, will this get through wiibrews strict rules? Even talking about this is against the rules. lol Asmartgoat 23:07, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
