Standards for removal of "Old" news?

If we get too much news stacked up, the Main Page starts looking bad. Especially in the new layout we've been looking at. I'd be in favor of a One Week standard for news removal. Of course, if news flow slowed, this wouldn't be very good. Perhaps a "number of items" or "number of listed days" standard would be good. ProdigySim 08:09, 6 March 2008 (PST)

I suggest 7 news items should be up for any given time. Even if there's a rush of new things it should work. The main page should stay relatively clutter-free. I also suggest that the Current Events page keep the latest 14 news items. Anything beyond that seems fit for "old news". --Chell65 13:11, 8 March 2008 (PST)

Link to the official site

Please, when posting news about some new homebrew, link directly to the official site, instead of some unaffiliated page which is just trying to get traffic. Especially don't link to sites that promote warez or other illegal activities. --Davr 08:41, 8 April 2008 (PDT)

If there is an wiki article, link to that page please. Felix123 18:10, 29 May 2008 (PDT)

removed incorrect news item

I removed the news item: "The here-banned hacker Waninkoko released the first custom firmware to run in an unmodded Wii. Some claim that DVD-R's can be read on an unmodded console by using GenPlus-GX."

  1. Why are we posting news and linking to a user that is supposedly banned?
  2. The claims are false, you need a modchip to read DVDR's, no matter what.
  3. This is NOT a "custom firmware". It is a modified version of Nintendo's IOS. IOS is the software which runs on a sub-processor inside the Wii. It is not related to the "firmware" with channels, mii editor, etc in it.
  4. This is mostly useless for homebrew...on unmodded wii's the only thing it does is let you dump commercial wii discs.

I really think the news page should be locked and only a select few should be able to edit. That would prevent dumb news items like these getting posted

RSS Feed Search Patterns

The Latest News RSS feed from Feed43 follows the following search pattern:

Global Pattern Item Pattern
<span class="mw-headline">Latest homebrew releases {%} </ul> <li> <b>{%}:</b> {%}</li>
Too bad it's broken. Here's a working feed, and here's its patterns.
Global pattern:
<span class="mw-headline"> News </span></h2>{|}<ul>{%}</ul>
Item pattern:
<li> <b>{*}</b>: {%}</li>
...and the rest is the same as it is now. Feed43 seems to be a bit fuzzy on line breaks. (In other news, why can't they just use a damn regular expression?!)  — SheeEttin 20:25, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Automating News

It seems annoying to have to move every 5th news entry to the archive section. Has anyone ever looked in to getting a Mediawiki plugin to automate this for you?

Comex new hack

I dont know if anyone wants to put this up (im not sure if its news worthy, and it will probably just get deleted) but comex has used the twilight hack source code, it seems, to make a new hack for SSBB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS2u8Nx7FY8&feature=channel_page
