Version 4.0 of the System Menu was released on March 25th, 2009. It was announced in Satoru Iwata's GDC keynote.

The announcement lists these changes:

• The Wii console can now use SDHC (SD High Capacity) Cards with a maximum of 32GB of storage.
• The SD Card Menu (which allows you to easily copy titles from an SD or SDHC Card, run them, and delete them) is added to the Wii menu.
• The Wii Shop Channel will now allow you to download titles directly to an SD or SDHC Card.
• The Wii console's Data Management menu has been enhanced to make it easier to copy and move stored items on an SD Card or the Wii console's system memory.
• The Wii User Agreement, which includes the Wii Privacy Policy, has been updated. Because the updated agreement applies to you and your use of the Wii Network Service, you should view the updated version by clicking on the Wii icon located on the lower-left portion of the Wii Channel menu, selecting Wii Settings, accessing the Internet setting, and selecting User Agreements.
• There are other behind-the-scenes enhancements to the Wii console system menu included with Wii Menu 4.0

The update includes a batch of IOS updates issued a few hours before the System Menu update.

Dear Customer,

Nintendo would like to inform you that a Wii Menu update is now available. Select the UPDATE button on the lower-right to update your Wii Console. You can also update by selecting Wii SYSTEM UPDATE in the Wii Settings.

With this update, the SD Memory Card functionality of the Wii console has been enhanced to support the following features:

- An SD Card menu has been added to the Wii Menu. This allows you to launch a Virtual Console game, WiiWare title or Channel from an SD Memory Card (SD Card or SDHC Card).

- It is now possible to download games, titles and Channels directly to an SD Memory Card (SD Card or SDHC Card) from the Wii Shop Channel.

- The Wii Shop Channel now includes Virtual Console Arcade.

- The Wii Shop Channel and Photo Channel 1.1 now support the use of high-capacity SDHC Memory Card format.

Please note that an updated version of the Wii Speak Channel that supports the SDHC Memory Card format can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel. The current version of the Wii Speak Channel will not be able to communicate with the updated version, so all parties using the Wii Speak Channel will need to perform this update for continued operation.

IMPORTANT

Save files created by unauthorised modifications may cause damage to your Wii console. This Wii Menu update will detect and automatically delete such files. Please note that these deletion measures will not affect Wii consoles that contain only normal save files.

Note: If you have already updated your Wii console since 25 March 2009, you do not need to update again.

Wii Menu version 4.0 is now available for your Wii console. To update your Wii Menu to the latest version, please select the Update button at the bottom of the screen or select the System Update option in Wii System Settings.

With this update, the SD Memory Card function has been enhanced to support the following features:
