1) It was dark, I was tired
2) It's complicated. Basically, we can't directly access the WiFi chip without an IOS patch, or BootMii. Therefore, we can't use the drivers that already exist for it. Also, the way we can access it is such a way that we'd need to rewrite the whole linux network stack to use it properly, which isn't an easy task
