Answered
General
What is the Homebrew Channel all about?
A: It's a channel that lets you run Wii Homebrew in .elf or .dol format. Currently, you can load them from an SD card, a USB Gecko or via local network (WiFi or wired). Each application may have a customised icon of certain size, and various metadata which is displayed when selected, such as name, short description, long description, version, release date, and coder, stored in an XML file.
Before Installing the Channel
Can the Homebrew Channel permanently damage my Wii?
Q: Have there been any cases so far of the Homebrew Channel bricking a Wii?
A: No.
What software is needed to run the HBC?
Q: Do you need any special software version to run HBC? Will it work with all versions? How do I find out which version I have?
A: No; most Wii owners should be able to install the HBC. If you receive a message during installation saying you are missing required system components, try renting or borrowing a 1Q 2008 Nintendo-authored game such as Super Mario Galaxy or Mario Kart; these games contain full updates and should install anything you need.
Compatible System Menu versions
Q: What versions of the System Menu can the Homebrew Channel run under?
A: The Homebrew Channel can install on all versions of the System Menu up to at least 4.2 using Bannerbomb. Bannerbomb v1 works with System Menu 4.1 and earlier, and Bannerbomb v2 works with System Menu 4.2.
After installing the HBC do I still need the disc for Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess?
Q: Does the Homebrew channel require someone to own LoZ: TP or can it be used once (IE if I rent the game) and work?
A: You only need to use the game once in order to install the channel. Afterwards, you can access the channel straight from the Wii menu.
Can I play Zelda again?
Q: After installing the Homebrew Channel using the twilight princess hack, will the Homebrew channel still function if I delete the twilight princess hack and reinstall my original save file?
A: Yes. Once the Homebrew Channel is installed, the twilight hack save is no longer required.
Can I install the HBC without Twilight Princess? How about Super Mario Galaxy?
Q: Is there a way I can install Homebrew Channel without Twilight Princess? If not, could you make a Super Mario Galaxy Hack?
- A: Yes, use bannerbomb. Or Smash Stack. Or Indiana Pwns.
- A2: If you have a modchip, and version 3.2 or lower of the Wii, you can do it.
Can the channel be copied from another Wii using an SD card?
Q: Would it be possible to COPY the actual channel from one machine onto another. If it's machine locked out, why not edit the file. Also, publishing a disc like action replay or gameshark might be able to force a channel! While this has probably been thought before, I'm not sure the reasoning why it isn't done.
A: Taken separately:
- Q. Would it be possible to COPY the actual channel from one machine onto another.
- A. No.
- Q. If it's machine locked out, why not edit the file.
- A. Because it doesn't work that way.
- Q. Also, publishing a disc like action replay or gameshark might be able to force a channel!
- A. Huh? Bushing 11:27, 23 June 2008 (CEST)
- A2.What he means is, is it possible to create a disc to install the hombrew channel. and no.
it would require a modded wii, until someone comes up with some sort of way to get it to run without a modchip.
- Yes, someone like Datel could produce a disc that would install the HBC on pre-3.3 systems. Bushing 04:10, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Q: I have the Homebrew Channel installed on my Wii. If I use Wii Data Management to copy the Homebrew Channel to an SD card can I take that to a friend's Wii and install the channel from the SD card to their Wii?
- A: No, like it doesnt work for savegames if the game had not be played. Would be quite silly to have the ability to simply copy VC Games.
Q: Just take the actual channel file and launch it from the SD card with the new launch from SD card part of 4.0. âPreceding unsigned comment added by 0piggyjelly0 (talk ⢠contribs) 21:47, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- A.System Menu 4.0 says, "New install and if copied to the SD card, cannot be move back to the system memory (running a channel requires copying it to memory)." I'm happy to be corrected, but I believe this implies that if the HBC is copied to the SD card, it becomes useless. --IanWatson 02:14, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Troubleshooting Installation Problems
I can't copy the Twilight Hack onto my Wii from the SD Card anymore even though the file is there.
Q: I downloaded the newest version of Twilight Hack to my SD Card, yet it doesn't show up when I go to Data Management --> Save Data --> Wii --> SD Card. I then cannot copy it to my Wii's NAND. How do I fix this? (It worked once, and this was before I formatted my SD Card. It was also before I deleted it by accident.)
A: Check if you put the correct file with the correct name in the correct folder. If that doesn't help, try a different SD card, or formatting it with the official tool.
When trying to copy the Twilight Save to the Wii, why does it say that I need to play the game first, when I already have?
A:You must have a Zelda: TP save file on your Wii, delete it, and put the Twilight Hack on, in that order. A2: Also, make sure you are copying the one for the correct region.
Exception 300 or similar errors
Q: I keep getting an error ("Exception 300" or similar) when trying to install the Homebrew channel via the TP hack.
A: You followed bogus installation instructions that were once posted here; try reinstalling using the revised instructions. (Hint: If you're renaming anything, You're Doing It Wrong.)
A: Also verify that boot.elf has not been corrupted after you've extracted it. The correct MD5 for boot.elf alone is 80dd6b7c096dcba88b7996a4cd8a5935
for HBC 8.
Zelda freezes whenever I talk to the man. Has an update from Nintendo fixed the hack or do I need to reformat my SD card?
Q: I have downloaded the TP Hack and the homebrew channel and renamed it boot.elf and put it at the root of my sd card like it says. I turn on the wii delete the zelda file, copy the TP hack to the wii and go to the disc channel, let it load, start it, do the vision test, load the TP hack file and talk to the man, but then this comes up and it freezes. I already reformated the sd card to FAT16 and everything but i dont know whats wrong? someone told me one of Nintendo's updates fixed the hack? here is the error message:
FAT_ReadFile (boot.elf) failed with error -1 No elf image at adress 90100000 Dol image detected? loading binary files
A: There are three known causes for this:
- Your card is formatted as FAT12; it needs to be formatted as FAT16 or FAT32. This is only a problem with small SD cards (less than 32MB or so)
- Your card is formatted without a partition table, in violation of the SD Card Spec.
- You followed the incorrect instructions that used to be posted here and renamed the .tar.gz file to boot.elf. Instead of renaming the file, you should extract it (using WinZip or another archiving program), and copy the resulting boot.elf onto your SD card.
- The first two problems can often be fixed by reformatting the card.
5. This can also be caused by trying to install the Homebrew Channel beta9 with an alpha release of the Twilight Hack. If this is the cause, upgrade the Twilight Hack. (tested 3.2E -- alpha0.3a -- beta9 = fail, 3.2E -- beta1 -- beta9 = success) Nanika 16:52, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Where the instructions say there should be a boot.dol or boot.elf file in the USA version Homebrew Channel download, there is only "installer" (ISO file).
It is the download from the official HBC site, but not addressed in any instructions or troubleshooting guides. There is no .dol or .elf file visible at all in the download.
A: You have downloaded the boot from disc version. Go back and download the version that does not have "iso" in the file name.
Wii won't boot up after installing Homebrew Channel
Q: I downloaded the homebrew channel on my wii and when I turn my wii on every time it gets stuck and won't budge. I can't get off the site it doesn't give me a choice... I think my wii was bricked.. I can't seem to fix it... can anyone help me..I want my wii back..
A: Installing Homebrew Channel can't brick your Wii, but Bootmii installed as boot2 can give you problems on bootup. Try removing your SD card before booting and it should boot just fine. Check BootMii/SD Card Compatibility List and add your card to the table. --Mu mind 13:32, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Updating the channel
Can the Homebrew Channel be updated to a newer version from the HBC itself?
Q: Would the installer install the updated version if it were booted through the Homebrew Channel? i.e. Add it as a Channel and then boot it?
A: Sure, other ways of booting the installer also work. It is possible to transfer it to the Wii using the Wiiload method, or from the HBC itself ;)
The Homebrew Channel doesn't seem to be updating automatically.
Q: Why didn't my Homebrew Channel detect the update? Connect 24 is on... and the World Icon on the Channel is white.
A: You could be behind a http proxy, the channel does not currently account for that. Also, the check is only done when you start the channel, we have not yet bothered reverse engineering connect 24.
How would an http proxy or a slow internet connection affect the update checker?
Q: Is there anything I can do to allow the Homebrew Channel to automatically update, assuming that I may be behind a http proxy? Or would a slow internet connection affect the update checker?
A: The self-update feature is still experimental; sometimes it does not work and we do not know why. Proxy support is something we'll need to explicitly add.
Installing Applications
What file format should applications have on the SD?
Q: What type of file format should I put into the SD?
A: Apps need to be called boot.elf or boot.dol (wii .dol only, not GC). Icons should be called icon.png, and information should be in meta.xml.
An application I installed manually without the Homebrew Browser doesn't show up in the HBC
Q: I've downloaded the "XYZ" app. It's a file in .dol. or .elf format. I've stored it into the SD card, but the HomeBrew's menu does not list the new app. What I'm doing wrong? Maybe should I have to store the app in a certain folder and/or do I have to run a certain installation procedure?
A: You need to create a folder in the root of the SD card called apps. Then you need to create a folder inside of that for each DOL or ELF file. Put the File in there, and rename it to either boot.elf or boot.dol(depending on the file type). You can then add an icon for each app in the same folder, with it named icon.png, and a description file name meta.xml.
I followed all the instructions but some applications still don't show up on the HBC
Using the channel
Is it possible to sort the applications running in the Homebrew Channel?
A: As of beta8, the Homebrew Channel sorts your applications alphabetically by their name (i.e. the content of the <name> Element in the application's meta.xml).
Q2: Do you have any plans of making manual sorting possible? It isn't very convenient to use the channel with many apps installed as it is now.
- I am also very interested in this feature. Although it's not perfect, you can edit the meta.xml files and place numbers in front of the app titles, e.g. 1. Homebrew Browser, 2. VBAGX, etc. Numbers are sorted before alphabet, so any numbered applications will come first. Note however that 11. comes before 2. --Szalkow 02:09, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
The Homebrew Channel starts to load an application, it doesn't freeze but the loading of the app stalls at 0% and I have to do a hard reset.
A: Update to beta9, which fixes the memory card bug. Marcan 12:08, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Can wiiload send entire folders to the Wii and automatically synchronize data such as save files back to the computer?
Q: Using Wiiload is great for loading .elf/.dol files, but could it be possible to load folders? I'd like to load my snes9x.elf with my roms and saves when I'd like to play, instead of keeping the on an SD card. Also, if this is possible, a feature for wiiload should be added so you can send the data BACK to your computer. A reason for this would be in case your save game file is updated.
A: You can use Homebrew apps/FTPii for this or buy a cheap USB card reader for your computer.
Can I have a different theme for the homebrew channel?
Q: It would be great to be able to customize our homebrew channel with differents possibility of theming. I don't find how to do it and if it is possible but if we let people the possibility to add theme I'm sure a lot a people will make them a pleasure to create a lot of theme for the homebrew channels.
A: No, this currently cannot be done. --Gameboy13 02:12, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Q2:Are there ways or plans to implement themes for the channel? --Atariangamer 05:24, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, themes would be really cool Rsrockerz 07:13, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- The HBC seems far better than Wii Homebrew Launcher but I do like the way WiiHL looks like the normal Wii Channels. WOuld this be possible in a future update?
N
Should I install the latest Nintendo Wii update after I've already installed the HBC?
Q: Nintendo has just relased an update for the Wii System Software. In the relase notes, Nintendo says that modded savefiles and so on will be removed by this update. I've installed the HBC. What will I do? Is it sure to install this update?
A: Although we recommend you do not update, the Homebrew Channel is unaffected by the update.
Is there any chance at all that Nintendo can or will brick a Wii that already has the Homebrew Channel?
A: Possible, but unlikely. It's far more likely that a future Nintendo update could *accidentally* conflict with the HBC. Keep checking on WiiBrew before installing any updates and you'll likely be safe.
Does a software-only modification void my warranty?
Q: Does this void my warranty even though it is just software and not a hardware mod?
A: Technically? Perhaps. Realistically? No.
Should I be concerned that the Homebrew Channel usage is being logged to the Wii message board?
Q: Is there a way to prevent the Homebrew Channel - and the time spent using it - from being logged on the Wii message board?
A: No, nor is there any real need to.
- Followup: This information is uploaded if you use the My Nintendo channel and elect to share usage information (required if you want to download DS demos). The concern is that Nintendo will know you are running the Homebrew Channel and they could quickly identify individual Wii numbers if they decide to block all online access (Like Microsoft did with Live). It is a real concern. Can you remove the information from the logs when the Homebrew channel shuts down?
- No, it's not a real concern. They don't care. Really. Put your tinfoil hat away.
Issues with specific apps
Q: I succesfully installed the HB channel and the provided apps package too, but I cannot setup the modern style into the ScummVM. The Wii ScummVM has only the classic style built-in, so I tried to copy the "modern" style from my PC to the SD card. The Wii ScummVM now does list the new style, but even if I choose it, the interface does not change. What am I doing wrong?
A: Try asking in the talk page for that application instead: Talk:ScummVM.
Source and Future plans
When will the source code be released?
Q: Are there any plans to release the source to THC or is it available already? Opening up the source would allow more people to understand how exactly THC works, and aid in developing other channels. It would also allow us all to try and improve THC or go in our own direction with it. I also noticed there wasn't any contact email address, which is what brought me here.
A: When both it and the audience is ready for that. )
- I think the reason there isn't source release of the HBC is so that there aren't a 100 unofficial HBCs made by other people *cough*wanky*cough*. Or atleast that's what everyone said when the topic came up in #wiidev --vader347 22:27, 6 August 2008 (CEST)
Is there a Japanese translation for the Homebrew Channel planned?
A: Not yet, because we do not yet have Japanese-characterset support for our text rendering code. A good first step would be for us to make Japanese text work in meta.xml. Can you provide some examples of meta.xml with Japanese text, along with a screenshot of how it should work? Bushing 11:27, 23 June 2008 (CEST)
- The Wikipedia article on the Japanese language has a fair amount of Japanese text, as does the article on Japanese grammar. If your computer doesn't support it, I uploaded a screenshot of some of the text.
I have some ideas to let the HBC automatically update applications to the latest versions.
Q: This is more of a suggestion, rather than a question...I'm just not sure how to contact you guys any other way. :) I'm envisioning something like this - you'd just add an extra (optional) field to the xml file for each homebrew app. That would be a link to an xml file hosted on the app's own project website containing the latest version number. When an app is run, that remote file is checked by the homebrew channel. If it's the latest version, the app runs. If it isn't, the hbc prompts the user to download whatever's linked to in the remote xml file, be it a new .elf file, .xml, .png, or any combination of the three. This could help lots of people stay up-to-date as many homebrew project updates are buried within pages and pages of some random forum on a website somewhere. This could encourage homebrew authors to set up some kind of 'real' hosting somewhere to ensure consistent access to the latest versions of their work.
A: We have some plans for functionality along these lines -- stay tuned. In the mean time, try the Homebrew Browser.
Will there be any background music added to the channel?
A: There are certainly plans for that, but it's not our top priority right now. Drmr 15:56, 29 July 2008 (CEST)

How do I write an app for the homebrew channel?
Q: How do I write an app for the homebrew channel? I have some knowledge of c++, and would be open to learn any graphics libraries I would need. What do I need to do to start creating the app? Is there anything different while making the actual game? How do I compile into an .elf or .dol file?
A: Look at Getting Started with devkitppc to get started with compiling apps. Development Tools has some libraries, I suggest libwiisprite.
The homebrew channel now gives a code dump with lots of numbers while reading the SD card.
Q: My homebrew channel used to work, but now when i start it up it says its reading the SD card and it suddenly changes to code and says code dump and a long string of numbers. Everything else is normal though. What's wrong?
A: Try a different SD card, or see if it still crashes without an SD card inserted.
A2: This would point towards a bad meta.xml file, remove each app in turn until you find out which one it is, then correct the meta.xml file.
Is the keyboard supported?
Q: Have you guys been working on any way to get a keyboard working with the Homebrew Channel? The way I see it is that you have two ways of doing it. Either through the USB or through the Gamecube Powerboard attachment via GC controller port. I just figured it would help with some of the games like Tyrian where you need to type in order to save.
A: There is no dependence between the Homebrew Channel and the applications it launches. Device support has to be included with the applications themselves. Drmr 15:54, 29 July 2008 (CEST)
Can I compile my own apps on the Wii itself using a keyboard?
Q: Would it be possible, if you get a keyboard working for HBC, to create a compiler, so you can just compile and run the apps, without ever leaving your Wii?
A: Not likely. Embedded systems are generally not used to compile code for themselves. A2: If you are already intimate with Debian Linux, dpkg/apt and with programming/porting, you will be interested to install Wii Linux with gcc and various dependant packages, then compiling/porting libs yourself to build some programs on a USB drive; but this is beyond the scope of discussion here (you're pretty much on your own because it is undocumented). This isn't for the feint of heart; i.e. if you don't know what all of the above means...
The HB channel works fine, but I'm having trouble with a secific appliction.
What about progressive scan support?
Q: I use a VGA cable for my Wii so I can play it on my monitor, but that demands a VGA output. When I boot up a homebrew with The Homebrew Channel, it reverts to interlaced output, so I can't see anything. Would it be possible, at some point, for The Homebrew Channel to force an application to take up 480p, or is that going to rest entirely on the application?
A: It is up to the individual application to set the correct video mode. The developer should use the latest VIDEO_GetPreferredMode
function described in Developer Tips.
Expanding a .tar.gz?
Q: How to expand the .tar.gz? I am not very good with that kind of stuf
- A: On windows, use a program such as winrar or 7-zip (the former having a nag screen, the latter being completely free). Google either of them.
New Questions
Why is the Homebrew Channel TruchaSigned?
Q. Why is the Homebrew Channel TruchaSigned?
A: In order to install code into NAND flash, it has to be signed. So, we fakesign it using the strncmp flaw (aka "Trucha Signing"). That's just the way the system works.
- Yes, but why not legit-sign it? --FSX 12:43, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- We do not have the key Nintendo uses to sign things.
- Also, it would be illegal --SifJar 15:47, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Run HBC off USB disk?
Q: With the coming ability to store WiiWare and Virtual Console gmaes straight to the SD card, it would be nice to run the homebrew channel off a usb disk. Is that an idea you are/will be working on?
- What does the first part have to do with the second part? Bushing 13:14, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Not a valid wii application keeps appearing on anything
Q: I recently downloaded the Homebrew channel and twilight hack, and some apps. However, on the HBC, the apps are displayed, but when I click one, it says its not a valid wii app.It is HBC version 1.01, which I downloaded from wii brewology, as I can't open gz files, but they all get displayed, they are all dol files. Also, I have system menue 3.3.I've been using the twilight hack to load anything at the moment, but I obviosly can't do any cheats with ocarina on TP.Should I update to 3.4?The apps I have tested are wiipaint,Ocarina,Gecko OS,and Wii Physics, and none of them load, althogh wii Physics actualy has the load bar last longer.... Is there a way to set a parental controls 'rating' on the Homebrew channel?
Q: I would like to keep the kids out of the Homebrew Channel, there is lots of stuff in there they could mess with and not have any clue what they are doing and possibly mess something up. Being able to set a parental controls rating higher than they would need access to would allow me to keep them out of there but still be able to access all the other stuff.
I don't know how the Age Rating could be inserted into a channel... But there is also a manual way: remove the SD card, put it somewhere safe where the kids couldn't reach it and they can't destroy your Wii :) --Drag0nflamez 14:11, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Can I make folder to sort my application?
Q: I begin to have a lot of application on my homebrew channel and I would like to be able to make a folder game, a folder media... It don't works if we do it simply but perhaps a special xml in the folder can do it works.
Can you run a version of HBC straight off an SD card?
Q: Would it be possible to download a boot.dol of the HBC to run straight off an SD card via Bannerbomb? That would provide a nice, portable, GUI-oriented Wii Hack SD card.
Any chance The Hombrew Channel on an .elf .dol file?
I have bannerbomb ok, but thet don't want to install ie as a channel. Is it possible to put on a boot.dol, and just use an exploit like Smashstack oor banerbomb? (I want it to be portable.) I'm running Wii 4.2 .
Any help, I'd thank you. -Mp3c 22:51, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- No, sorry. It makes it too easy for someone else to repackage (and sell) it. -- Bushing 05:58, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'll just have to use Wii Hombrew Launcher. A nice alternative...
- Thanks anyways! =)

Can you disable the delete option once an app has been selected?
Q: Would be great if the delete option can be selected by a config option (on or off)
- I agree. Mean, if you know how to install those apps, you KNOW how to delete those too. You don't need that delete button. There's always risk that someone accidentally use that delete button, when suppose to load those apps. Example, you are just a children and you don't understand english. In one family, there is one INSTALLER and the rest are just a USERS. USERS don't need to delete anything, or understand nothing what INSTALLER do. USERS just want to enjoy those apps what INSTALLER have install in HBC. I hope HBC 1.0.7 coming soon, without those delete buttons. --BroidiTR1 âPreceding undated comment added 08:49, 6 February 2010 (UTC).
Why not have an option to change default viewing mode (old / mosaic)?
Q: Since it's a very comfortable way to see installed apps, it would be nice to choose mosaic style by default.
- "mosaic" meaning "grid view"? I was wondering this myself. It's an excellent feature, but it's almost worthless if your preference doesn't stick. --Mu mind 13:34, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
- looks like it'll be in the next release: FS#217 in tracker --Mu mind 04:28, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Amazing update, however quick question about the new view. Is there any way to default the HBC to the new view? As of right now I switch to the new view pressing 2 yet it defaults back to the old view ever time I boot up HBC. Not a big deal but would be nice. --Devonathan âPreceding undated comment added 20:36, 1 October 2009 (UTC).
- I agree, the new view is GREAT! It would be nice to save the last setting. Also because the new view relies entirely on the icon for identification, it would also be great for a title popup on mouseover. âPreceding unsigned comment added by Donsch (talk ⢠contribs) 20:57, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Music
I think the HBC should have music in the main menu and a sfx when you pop a bubble (your own Mp3's or the same music you get when you load the channel would be fine)--Aujakev 14:03, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
I agree. That would be interesting. A lot less boring. --SonicHyuga 10:30PM, July 15, 2009 (UTC)
- That would get a little annoying. Maybe it's just me...
- Mp3c 03:14, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I would say some light background music (think Snes 9x or the actual wii menu) would be nice. I also think a bubble sound would be sweet, but ONLY when your in bubble popping mode, if it made a sound for every bubble popped while using the real menu I'd go insane! wat.
This isn't a question or a bug, so I'm putting it here. It bugs the CRAP out of me that the homebrew channel is blue. Homebrews can range from white wheat ales to the blackest of stouts, but if your homebrew is blue, you've done something very wrong. RandomFerret 0:54, 7 June 2008 (EST)
- Hey, you're not alone, Randomferret. I feel the same way. Home brew is not supposed to be blue unless you've got a smurf infestation under the kitchen sink or the bathroom cabinet where you've hidden the hooch. Flark 13:27, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

- Correct. -- Bushing 01:46, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
All first letters should be upper case in "the homebrew channel"?
Is it just me, or should't each word in "the homebrew channel" begin with an upper-case letter like all the official Nintendo channels? (both the hovering text(this one's already "correct"), and the graphic text in the animation of the channel) I think it'd look better following the standard of the other channels.
- I agree its not a huge deal its just one of those pet peaves i guess if thats what you call them. I dont care about grammer much except for capatalizing. Looks professional.
Passing of arguments to main (argc/argv)
Is it possible with the latest release?
- Yes, with Wiiload. -- Bushing 01:46, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Feature Request: ADD USB Support
I don't have an SD card so I load most of the applications using wiiload. Having an USB key I put all the homebrew applications on that key and I use wiiload to get Loadmii working inside the homebrew channel. This allows me after to run everything from USB. However it would be nice to implement directly additional USB support inside the homebrew channel so there is no need to use the wiiload/loadmii through a wireless connection each time.
- They already did, I think. Check the latest version. =P

Nice update, but it has it's own drawback
The update for this breaks preloader's ability to boot into HBC. I don't know to revert to an older version, wait for the -now unmaintained- preloader to be updated or what. --[RePod] 04:37, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah if only there will be an update on preloader soon, I think preloader only launches the channel with the ticket HAXX, since HBC changes it's ticket to JODI..it will (eventually) load nothing.--Keithpichu 10:00, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like Preloader/Third Party Mods/DacoTaco fixes this (or maybe the official Preloader 0.30 already did?). Can someone confirm? --Mu mind 02:52, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

- First off, in general, see http://lmgtfy.com/?q=cioscorp+uninstaller. However, it sounds like you are trying to solve this manually, which is noble. I don't know why you get those error messages, it sounds like a bug in that program. For the HackMii Installer to run, you need to have installed either

Request for feature reimplementation
My wireless has always given me trouble, and I would frequently use the reload option on the HBC to enable wiiloading. In the new version, however, there is no option to reload the HBC without completely restarting the Wii. (Remember that the 1 button is no longer the reconnect button) If in the next update you were to add the reload option back, this would be very helpful to me. Toagac 22:19, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- By "reload", do you mean reconnect to wireless? You should be able to do that by clicking on the wireless icon in the bottom right. --Mu mind 02:12, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Start Default Application
Most of the time I only use my Wii for running an emulator from HBC. I have set my BootMii/Boot2 to boot HBC, but it would be nice if I could set HBC to start a specific app on load if that app is present on sd/usb. That way the wii will boot directly to my emulater, but when I need to run other Homebrew or maybe even go to the system menu, I would just start the wii to HBC without the SD card containing that app inserted.

Quick Question about HBB loading issues
I try and load up my HBB.. (Version 0.3.6 with Wii offical software update 3.4U)
The HBB loads up then comes up with the black screen with the coding.
it attempts to load the SD Card (where my HBC / HBB and all are loaded) and says "unable to be mounted" Attempting to mount SD card. could not write to sd:/. Size 0 didn't match expected size."
Then it tries to mount the USB device (and comes up with the same thing) and keeps doing that until I shut off the channel.
Anyone help me with this? it's quite irritating. I finally got the internet back and I think my Wii automatically updated the Nintendo software. Has anyone else seen this problem? All my other Emulators and Roms appear to work fine, just my HBB doesn't. âPreceding unsigned comment added by SirNate (talk ⢠contribs) 02:49, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
- 1) this is the help page for HBC not HBB. Post on the HBB page to get help with HBB. 2) As of 4.2, there is no possibility for Nintendo to auto update your wii. If your wii was updated someone did it. Nintendo could not have done it on their own.--Yossi 09:13, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
after fomat wii how to reinstall HBC?
I had the HBC a little while ago, and recenly i updated the HBC through wii, because some game that i downloaded are too new, and it wouldnt work with my soft chip. so after upgrading. in HBC i install the new soft chip and Gecko193. but it wont work with the game i download and burn into dvd. so i restart and try and try. and i re-enter HBC and the screen was upside-down. so nevermind that. i try and reinstall everything. and still doesnt work. so thought i fomat the wii and everything wii become new and just reinstall HBC will be fine. BUT....... when i try to reinstall. it said my HBC is already a latest ver. so i could not install or uninstall . all i can do is to exit. so what can i do now ? wait for a new HBC VER to download and install or what? how can i uninstall HBC or everything in wii to get a new fresh start?

Wii resets when I try to open the homebrew channel
I formatted my Wii twice, did the same with SD card, tried two different sources and it still doesn't work for me. Any advice? âPreceding unsigned comment added by Tryciu (talk ⢠contribs) 21:15, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Can you add an option to instantly load application?
How often we open an app to read about, go back or delete it? I guess, in most of the case, we just select an app to press load. Is it possible to add an option "Auto load the selected application"? When the option is checked then pressing "A" key should instantly load the selected app. And have another button (e.g., "press and hold A for 2-3 sec" assigned to go to the current load screen to provide delete & about ability)
NTFS Filesystems
Is there any plan to, in future releases, add support for NTFS drives in HBC? âPreceding unsigned comment added by NonaSuomi (talk ⢠contribs) 01:46, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Damaged IOS
I bought a Wii in China that had other hacks that wrecked an IOS, their fault not mine. I deleted everything and formatted but it seems the IOS is still damaged so I can't install HBC, I just get the "No vulnerable IOS" message. Is there or will there be a way to fix the IOS? This would be good. âPreceding unsigned comment added by Urchinsub (talk ⢠contribs) 09:19, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Disc Error
I've installed the HomeBrew Channel awhile back. I was playing one of my games on the Wii and it suddenly it stops working with an error message. So I try the game again and it still didn't work. I then tried other games (along with Gamecube games) and I was still getting error messages. I deleted the HomeBrew Channel to see if that might help, but it still didn't work. I then sent the Wii to Nintendo for repairs. A few days later they sent it back to me and said that the problem is the HomeBrew I downloaded (also they didn't repair due to the Homebrew). I then format my Wii to get rid of all the HomeBrew that is in the Wii and the Wii is still saying disc error messages.
Any help? Unknown277 22:50, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
= Updating wii?
Q: Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but here it is. I HAVE NOT UPDATED MY SYSTEM IN A VERY LONG TIME. I think I'm 4.2 or something not sure anyway I have no idea how far the system verson is anymore my question is how should I go about updating. Should I uninstall homebrew and update and reinstall with SSBB hack. "because I sold Zelda TP" or use HackMii Installer will that work. I don't want to bricked my wii. the reason I want to update is because I can't get in the wiishop without updating or do anything really. And I hear cave story's really good. IOS version / Wifi
I used Dop-Mii to install IOS's with trucha (so I could install Ios 202). I had a 180 reversed HBC. Re-running the HBC installer "worked", but broke wiiload. In the past, I had used:
% export WIILOAD=tcp:wii
Now I have to use
% export WIILOAD=tcp:192.168.1.73
The IOS currently used (I think it said 20) doesn't support reverse DNS.
However, I did leave IOS 70 unchanged (4.2 system). I know HBC wants to use an unmodified IOS, but I'm surprised that it isn't using this one.
What's the highest IOS that HBC will use? Or, what's the best one to leave unchanged for wifi support? Keybounce 02:59, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
The update 4.3
Hey Homebrew guys Teem Tweezers You know how there is a new wii menu the 4.3? Are you going to make a BannerBomb to install homebrew channel for those new users who have 4.3? or is this the end and 4.2 homebrew channel will be your last? IF there is going to be a new one when is it coming out? Also should I downgrade my wii from 4.3 back to 4.2? or is it dangeroues? because currently the Homebrew channel doesn't load up now because the 4.3 blocks it. So I have one last question are you going to make a file to downgrade your wii from 4.3e back to 4.2e? or is there going to be another Bannerbomb or another way to install homebrew? Thanks
Daxaal
- First of all, Team Twiizers didn't make Bannerbomb, and there will NOT be a new version for 4.3. Bannerbomb has been blocked; It's finished. There will be a new HackMii Installer for 4.3 but you will need a different exploit to run it. Secondly, downgrading is never a good idea. Team Twiizers will never make a "file to downgrade your wii". There will be another way to install The Homebrew Channel. --bg4545 19:51, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Hackmii installer 4.3 release date?
Hey does anyone know when the new hackmii installer is being released? Also is there going to be another way to install homebrew by downloading file onto an SD card (like bannerbomb)or are we going to have to use Indiana Pwns and Smash stack. If there is another exploit coming out what is it called and when is it coming out? So what are the release dates for the exploit and new hackmii installer which will work on wii menu 4.3? or around how long is it going to take?
Daxaal
- To quote bushing's blog post, regarding the release of a new HackMii installer:
...weâll spend some more time to obfuscate our exploits this time to make it harder for ninty to find and fix them. It might therefore take some more time until our next release.
