Source?
Would love to see source for this. I've been wanting to make a remote debugger sort of app like this has, but not using USB Gecko. Having this to refer to would really help. 198.166.12.229 21:21, 17 April 2008 (PDT)
Luckily for you, yesterday Nuke uploaded the code to the USB Gecko Fourms and I added a link to it on the page! theDuck 13:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Ocarina doesn't work with brawl
I load the game, and says "Please insert the Super Bros. Brawl Disc". PAL Launch Wii, US Brawl.
- Go ask for help here: http://wiird.l0nk.org/wp/ It has a forum where you can get assistance. Flark 21:06, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Would this work?
Would this 2 gb usb flash memory drive serve as a usb gecko?
Support Question?
Some people on Tehskeen have been asking-- does it need a modchip, and can you boot backups with this?
- You need a drivechip for copied games. You don't need a chip for original games. 130.237.152.216 20:09, 19 April 2008 (PDT)
Problems
I've tried it with two games now, and when the Wii restarts it just hangs on a blank screen, no sound, doesn't appear to be doing anything, even though the light is on. PAL Wii, latest version, Component cable @ 480p, SMG and LoZ:TP tried. Does it matter if I'm using games from my own region, as I don't have any imports?
Gecko OS doesn't work with the last HomeBrew Channel release (beta 9) (because of the ELF issue ?) --Zaccret 10:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, just go to the official forum (see the link in the article) and follow the link "Gecko OS and new HBC - read here!" --Zaccret 09:28, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Ignores update partition
Does this mean that Gecko Region Free cannot cause (semi-)bricked Wiis from discs that update firmware on the incorrect region of the Wii? If it's safe, I would probably be interested in using this to import some games... --Chungy 23:50, 26 May 2008 (PDT)
According to http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=105323 it does ignore update partitions. So it is completely safe to use this with any disc. Niohubala 22:00 2 July 2008 (GMT +2)
GameCube?
Does this work with imported GameCube games? Also, since it can now be run from the HBC, does this mean it can be run off an SD card instead of the Gecko Loader?
- It does not work with GC games. You can run it via the homebrew channel however you like; originally it didn't work with the Gecko Loader, only the TP hack. The Gecko in the name is a bit of a misnomer, it is just because it has more features (eg screenshots) with the USB Gecko. Muzer 21:15, 24 June 2008 (CEST)
- It now works with GC games. I am able to run a US (NTSC) game on my PAL console. --Zaccret 11:08, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Gecko OS
Should this be moved to Gecko OS? Felix 06:53, 28 June 2008 (CEST)
- I agree with Felix, can someone make the changes?. spnorth 17:33, 28 July 2008 (CST)
- I agree too

Unsigned Games and the new Wii Update
My Wii is modchipped, but 2 games in particular I play are a DVD5 of SSBB (I own the game, but the DVD5 runs better than the DVD9) and I have the review copy (AO rated) version of Manhunt 2, which wasn't signed. I use the Gecko OS to play these games because if I stick them in the Wii even with my modchip, the Wii rejects them immediately. I was wondering if the new Wii update would affect the ability to play these games?
Also does the Gecko OS interfere with the system clock? every time I save the game, it has the same date and time from like 3 years ago, and I think it affects gameplay because sometimes my character will go into a haven't touched wiimote do some funky pose state, and won't wake up for a couple of seconds.--DaveyDucati 16:53, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Convert AR Codes ?
Hello ! I'm interested by the Ocarina function of this program, but the Code library given by USB Gecko is not very huge. I saw than you can convert codes from Action Replay, but how could we do ? Thanks. --Quizzman 17:28, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Gecko OS Colour Issues
Hi. I have color problems when I play Blast Works NTSC on my PAL Wii (I even bought a RGB-Cable, this changed black-and-white to red-and-white). So I would like to try out GeckoOS Color Fixed, but your link only goes to Gecko 2.0-advertisings. Am I able to download GeckoOS Color Fixed? --Woku 13:02, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- For anyone that has colour problems when using NTSC games on a PAL console: Force PAL60 from the options. PhoenixTank 15:50, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- There are 3 categories of games, when you look at this issue: 1. The games that allow you to just force the video mode you want/need.(about 50%) 2. The games that can be patched to allow this, but i can't post a link here, due to the rules. I know only "piracy" tools that either patch before buring, or patch before running.(about 40%) And 3. there are games, that don't allow the video mode(s) you want, and can't be patched to them.(about 10%) --WiiPower 17:07, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
HELP!!
i have wii 3.4u with gecko os, and my rebooter doesn't work! Why is that?
- Rebooter just doesn't work on 3.4. --Bg4545 02:40, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Help2
i have no clue how to do this on my wii do you download onto an sd card the its there on your wii when you put the card in?
and does this work for SDHC cards? = Drettig101
- In order to run Gecko OS from the homebrew channel you have to create a folder for Gecko OS on your sd card under /apps/, and copy the boot.dol there like /apps/GeckoOS/boot.dol. If the package you picked contains a meta.xml and icon.png, you can copy them there too, but these files are optional. All other files are most likely the source code or release notes. For loading Ocarina from sdhc cards you need one of the sdhc versions. --WiiPower 07:35, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Help3
Whenever I select launch channel, I always get an error that says "No channel list found".What am I doing wrong? I'm on 3.4u, and I'm kind of a noob. Any help would be appreciated.WaxyPumpkin72 23:55, 29 April 2009 (UTC)WaxyPumpkin72
Source is missing for 1.8
Where's the source code for Gecko OS 1.8? If it's based on Gecko OS 1.07b, it's licensed under GPL v2 too. --WiiPower 07:40, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Ok it seems that Gecko OS 1.8 is based on the cancelled Gecko OS 2.0. Gecko OS 2.0 is said to be nearly completely new written. And both Nuke and brkirch don't want to release the new Gecko OS as open source, because it would be used by pirates then. --WiiPower 08:54, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- If it contains any code from the previous gpl'd version, then the new source must also be released under the gpl. So a nearly complete re-write is not enough. It must be 100% re-written in order to allow the app to be closed source. At least that is my understanding. Correct me if I am wrong. --Flark 00:37, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- The original author (in this case Nuke) is free to re-license his application under whatever license he likes to as long as all contributors agree. And exactly this has happened here: Nuke no longer wants to keep this opensource and all other people who contributed agreed. --Svpe 08:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, I didn't know you could do that. I figured it was "once open source, always open source", but this changes a lot of things. Thanks. --Flark 17:38, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Besides, the only person who can actually sue someone for violating the GPL on a piece of software is the actual author of the code. So, if you did suspect foul play, all you could really do is try to find all of the original authors and convince them to file a lawsuit. --Bushing 12:23, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- After doing some searching on the subject, I have found that this is indeed the case. To summarize, if you are the original author, you have the right to change the license at any time. I am still not sure how this would effect other projects that are using your code which they obtained while it was under an open source copyleft, or people who might chose to work from older copies of your code and release branch-off projects... or even if it gives you the right to stop distributing older packages of source code or to demand that people distributing them cease doing so. So far, it does appear that anything you previously released under an open license such as the gpl can still be used and modified and even used for profit by anyone just as long as they also make the code available. If this is truly the case, then it is a good bet that wackynono or someone like him is going to come along in the near future and... yeah. lol --Flark 18:09, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- You can't change the license on old releases, just new releases. So anything you RELEASED under GPL is GPL forever and you can't reclaim it. However, now works don't need to be. They could do a 1.08 that's identical to 1.07 except the version number and close source that one (if they got all contributors to agree) but they can't ever prevent anyone from extending 1.07.Bobpaul 02:34, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

- That's a silly reason. The pirates already have the 1.07 code for their stuff. That ship has sailed. Closing 1.8 just means others can't contribute, extend, etc. where the main work is happening. Already there are 1.07 updates that fix the Error 002 issue, so developers haven't given up on it. Lazy pirates won't ever need the features in 1.8, though they might enjoy them if they had them. Determined pirates have modchips and can already use 1.8. All they've done is cause a needless fork, blocked out curious eyes, and potentially stifled innovation. If this were prior to the GPL release of 1.x, I'd agree, but with that code base already out there, closing 1.8 doesn't now and will never hurt the pirates. Bobpaul 02:34, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, but you are wrong. Gecko OS 1.8 has a higher compatibility than Gecko OS 1.07b. Ok, if the pirates play with discs, they can just use Gecko OS 1.8. But if Gecko OS 1.8 was open source, this would increase the number of games that can be played via the usb loaders, and that's what most pirates use nowadays. PS: Yes i'm one of the people who would integrate the improvements from 1.07b to 1.8 into the usb loaders, playing from usb is just more comfortable than playing with discs. --WiiPower 09:30, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I hadn't thought of compatibility. I rescind my comment. Bobpaul15:58, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Exactly, pirates would just want the features from 1.8 incorporating into the wii backup loader, it's their decision to keep it closed source, (for now) at the moment brkirch said. Based on GeckoOS 2.0 which was mostly rewritten and therefore not GPL. Djdynamite123 00:25, 16th April 2009 (UTC)
SDHC
Now that it has been updated, does it work with sdhc? I didn't see anything about it in the changelog. --Flark 13:52, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Why don'y you test with a SDHC card then you'l know ;) and it's bound to support SDHC. Djdynamite123 00:24, 16th April 2009 (UTC)
- I don't have an sdhc card and I'm not willing to fork out the cash to buy one just so I can test an app I'll never use anyway. --Flark 00:32, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Why'd you ask? Shadowtroop
- Someone might look at the current peripherals part of the infobox, not see the sdhc icon, and assume that it doesn't have sdhc support (when actually, it probably does as long as it was compiled with a recent libogc) Is that not a good enough reason to ask about it? --Flark 17:42, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
txt file needed?
Do I need that one text file to use gecko OS?
No, just you wont be able to load your previous settings, e.g. ocarina on, pal 50 etc.. as long as you have the SD Card, you can always re save etc. Assuming was called from a channel without a SD. Djdynamite123 16:08, 16th April 2009 (UTC)
Codes folder not located
If I move my Codes folder to \data\gecko\codes it isn't recognised, my BG.png is though. If I have it back on root of SD, then it is recognised, isn't a problem, just thought it may be a small error. Djdynamite123 17:41, 27th April 2009 (UTC)
Classic controller for Gamecube games
I was playing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (for Gamecube) on my Wii one day when I noticed my Wii remote was still on. (I am not sure if it is supposed to do that or not.) Which leads me to ask this question: "Is there any chance that this thing could allow people to play their old Gamecube games using classic controllers?" I actually like the classic controller more than the Gamecube controller and would like to be able to use it to play my old Gamecube games. --Ness and Sonic 16:12, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
