Has anyone tested this? Please post results --Sektor 02:50, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Very Dangerous
This seems extremely dangerous, and pointless as well, considering the GC didn't have much homebrew, and the ones that it did have should have a Wii port by now. I'm not even going to touch this with a 50 foot pole =/ --SquidMan 06:41, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
This is - assuming it's done correctly - not more dangerous than installing any modified IOS. --Svpe 12:36, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Why can't the installer patch and install MIOS with a different title, and the loader look for that title? Also, couldn't MIOS be downloaded from Nintendo, instead of copied from a disc? (I appreciate that this is a first release, just wondering if this is possible) Kwijibo 16:34, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
I was going to do this, except when I read that it disables GC mode. Is there a way to make it play a game instead if the start.dol is not found? I would try to do this myself, but I have no experience with modifying cIOS or MIOS, so I can't. theDuck 19:55, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
I agree with both of Svpe's and Kwijibo's statements. While this program uses PatchMii, it does it the Wrong Way. It not only modifies the only copy of MIOS on the system, it does so bypassing the ability of PatchMii to fetch the file from Nintendo's servers (MIOS is on their servers, isn't it?). Also, what's so hard about allowing one to boot a normal gamecube disk? That single fact alone worries me about the quality of this patch. TD-Linux 21:05, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
MIOS was updated in the 3.3 update, it should be somewhere on the NSU servers. Kwijibo 16:45, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't want to use newer version than 5 (for safety reasons). When Nintendo updates the server everything can be broken and it could download everything, for example stuff which removes all homebrew from my Wii and change the NAND and common keys. Now I detected when I download "tmd.5", I can stay on version 5. --Mega Man 13:48, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Has anyone tried the new version? I'm surprised the Front SD can be accessed in GC mode, can the limitations of MIOS be patched? If this works it could open up new possibilities for GC stuff, you could use the wireless hardware to emulate a BBA and play games online on a Wii. Kwijibo 11:32, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't access the front SD in GC mode. It reads the GC dol from front SD in Wii mode and then switches to GC mode. I haven't tested it. --Sektor 02:36, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I thought that the GC RAM was cleared on switching to GC mode, but I suppose that could be patched away to let you pass data between modes. Kwijibo 23:44, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
The memory is not deleted. I don't know why Nintendo didn't delete it. Patching is not needed. --Mega Man 13:40, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I am to understand that as of 0.2 the GC Homebrew Loader can load a GC dol file from the front SD Slot. I was just wondering if it works on a USA wii. If so, would I just use the normal RVL-mios.wad.out.wad file or would I use the one found in the USA-NTSC version of Super Mario Galaxy? Will homebrew be able to support the disc drive? Heres an example: mupen64gc loading roms from a DVD I haven't heard of much testing going on for this as it's pretty new but could someone answer my questions? --Twile 19:53, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
