:::::::You can't change the license on old releases, just new releases. So anything you RELEASED under GPL is GPL forever and you can't reclaim it. However, now works don't need to be. They could do a 1.08 that's identical to 1.07 except the version number and close source that one (if they got all contributors to agree) but they can't ever prevent anyone from extending 1.07.[[User:Bobpaul|Bobpaul]] 02:34, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

::::That's a silly reason. The pirates already have the 1.07 code for their stuff. That ship has sailed. Closing 1.8 just means others can't contribute, extend, etc. where the main work is happening. Already there are 1.07 updates that fix the Error 002 issue, so developers haven't given up on it. Lazy pirates won't ever need the features in 1.8, though they might enjoy them if they had them. Determined pirates have modchips and can already use 1.8. All they've done is cause a needless fork, blocked out curious eyes, and potentially stifled innovation. If this were prior to the GPL release of 1.x, I'd agree, but with that code base already out there, closing 1.8 doesn't now and will never hurt the pirates. :::::Sorry, but you are wrong. Gecko OS 1.8 has a higher compatibility than Gecko OS 1.07b. Ok, if the pirates play with discs, they can just use Gecko OS 1.8. But if Gecko OS 1.8 was open source, this would increase the number of games that can be played via the usb loaders, and that's what most pirates use nowadays. PS: Yes i'm one of the people who would integrate the improvements from 1.07b to 1.8 into the usb loaders, playing from usb is just more comfortable than playing with discs. --[[User:WiiPower|WiiPower]] 09:30, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Exactly, pirates would just want the features from 1.8 incorporating into the wii backup loader, it's their decision to keep it closed source, (for now) at the moment brkirch said.
