Technical additions

The update includes a batch of IOS updates issued a few hours before the System Menu update.

  • IOS16: Likely added to prevent its use for piracy.
  • IOS38: Slightly updated version (one minor version number) of the title included with Animal Crossing: City Folk.
  • IOS60: High version number suggests this is the latest IOS currently available.
  • IOS61: Is used as the new Shop Channel IOS. You can upgrade the Wii Speak Channel through the new Shop Channel without updating to System Menu 4.0, just have the new IOS61 installed.

Wii Menu version 4.0 is now available for your Wii console. To update your Wii Menu to the latest version, please select the Update button at the bottom of the screen or select the System Update option in Wii System Settings.

With this update, the SD Memory Card function has been enhanced to support the following features:

  • An SD Card menu has been added that allows you to launch a Virtual Console game, WiiWare title, or channel from an SD or SDHC Memory Card.
  • You can download games, titles, and channels directly to an SD or SDHC Memory Card from the Wii Shop Channel.

The following channels will also support the use of the high-capacity SDHC Memory Card format.

  • Wii Shop Channel*
  • Photo Channel 1.1
  • Wii Speak Channel**

(*) The Wii Shop Channel has been updated and now includes Virtual Console Arcade. (**) An updated version of the Wii Speak Channel that supports the SDHC Memory Card format can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel.

The current version of the Wii Speak Channel will not be able to communicate with the updated version. All parties using the Wii Speak Channel will need to complete this update for continued operation.

For additional details on the SD Card menu or SD/SDHC Memory Card formats, please visit our Web page at http://support.nintendo.com.

The Wii User Agreement, which includes the Wii Privacy Policy, has been updated. Because the updated agreement applies to you and your use of the Wii Network Service, you should view the updated version by clicking on the Wii icon located on the lower-left portion of the Wii Menu, selecting Wii Settings, accessing the Internet settings, and selecting User Agreements.

You may also view the updated Wii User Agreement online at http://support.nintendo.com.

Because unauthorized modifications to save files may impair game play or the Wii console, updating to Wii Menu version 4.0 will also check for and automatically remove such save files.

**Please note:
If you've updated your Wii Menu after 3/25/09, you may not need to update again.

Thank you for updating your Wii console!
