Ideas for Homebrew-Apps

Looking for a project??? heres a list of what other users would like to see:

Textviewer

Description: A text viewing app, plain and simple.

Motivation: If I work at my PC and can't use it at that moment to view a documentation, i could watch it instead on my Wii.

Controlled by: Wiimote

  • Select file to view
    • A: choose file or directory
    • B: go back up a directory level
    • HOME: back to HBC
    • D-Pad: use up/down to scroll up/down line by line, use left/right to scroll up/down page by page
  • Viewmode of a selected file
    • A: scroll down one page
    • B: scroll up one page
    • +: upscale font size
    • -: downscale font size
    • 1: cycle through encodings (e.g. UTF-8, ANSI, ASCII)
    • 2: cycle through line break methods (CR, CR/LF, LF)
    • HOME: menu: back to file, choose another file, back to HBC
    • D-Pad: use up/down to scroll up/down line by line, use left/right to scroll up/down page by page

Is this the correct page to request such an application? If I'm wrong, please correct me. More ideas to control this app can be delivered (things like switching line breaks on/off, in off-mode use d-pad to scroll also left/right).

It sounds like your asking for a Wii port of Vim. --nliwilson 16:43, 9 June 2008 (CEST)
I'm not sure under what situation you'd actually want to do this? If your wanting to view a text file on the wii it means:
a) You don't have your computer to hand
b) You've already got your text file on your SD Card
c) Getting to your computer/turning the PC on, will be slower than turning the wii on
Have you considered having a small web server on your network and accessing files through the internet channel instead? - JD 17:01, 9 June 2008 (CEST)

OpenSource Ports

I know we all generally have computers to play these on already, but so what! I want these on my Wii :D JD 13:52, 8 June 2008 (CEST)

WiiFlight

A flight simulator for the Wii, initially mention by Pinball wizard

My suggestion is take Flight Gear, kill LOADS and LOADS of graphics processing to where it is polygon and not much detail, and less control options in the cockpit, unless you do a point and click type of thing. Pinball wizard 23:35, 9 June 2008 (CEST)

Collaboration

Thanks for moving this discussion to here JD, this is much more sensible. That reminds me, personally I'd like to see the Sensible engine ported to Wii, or a clone there of, imagine Cannon Fodder with Wiimote support...

Anyway, it would be a good idea not only to encourage development through this page but to encourage something home-brew scenes tend to lack, collaboration. I know people do collaborate on projects but it tends to be erratic and close-circled, showing off personal coding skills is all good and well but think what could be achieved if more of the multi-skilled talent on this site where working together?

No probs... it makes sense that an area for this sort of thing, it just wasn't in the right place before! I know somepeople would suggest the forum being a better place, but I don't like how things get separated like that... JD 15:18, 9 June 2008 (CEST)
