Has anyone updated yet?

Anyone who used the Shop Channel updated (IOS 50, and 51 I think), with System Menu 3.2U update to 4.0? Will it update safely? --Piko

Just updated my PAL Wii. The Homebrew Channel is still there and from what I can tell normal Homebrew applications still work fine. Tested a few games like Mahjongg Wii, Smashing and Horror Vacui. --Botskiz 18:23, 25 March 2009 (GMT+1)

Out of curiosity I tried copying the Homebrew Channel to SD and launching it from the SD Menu. Even that works like a charm, from what I can tell. --Botskiz 18:30, 25 March 2009 (GMT+1)

Wow, that's fairly neat that the HBC launches from the SD card directly. Not that it makes a huge difference, since you have to have the channel installed in the first place before it can be copied to the SD card in the correct (and signed) format for your Wii to launch it. But still, that's awesome.

So, any word on whether or not 4.0 includes any code that updates the Wii automatically? It's occured to me that the update to the network policy might well have been to clarify the things that Wii Connect 24 already do, which is to update content for the News and Forecast channel and other WC24 enabled channels. I dunno, perhaps their legal jargon was challenged at some point and they had to rewrite it, unless there's evidence that they're putting that change to use anywhere?--Thegamefreak0134 03:47, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I updated my wii and it seems pretty god, the homebrew I checked all worked, not that I checked that much, but it's pretty good if you've already got the HBC installed --TwoBladedKnight

People don't seem to get how this doesn't launch from the SD card. It just copies the channel over, runs it, and deletes it when done. --11rcombs 06:05, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

That's right, the channels are being copied to the NAND memory of the Wii first and are not booted directly from the SD card.

SDHC

System Menu 4.0 and HomeBrew SD Card?

Can someone clarify how this update affects a Homebrew enabled SD Card? I am personally worried that, although there is mention of the update not affecting previous installs, there is nothing about whether the update re-formats the SD, or overwrites the file system of the SD! Obviously a full SD backup is recommended, but is it a must???

The update itself does nothing at all with the SD Card, so anything you stored on it will still be there after the update.

Small change i maded

IOS 61 IS used for the new shop channel. I installed the the ios 61 wad dump and the shop channel was able to work. and i was able to download the upgrade of the wii speak channel thru the new shop channel and it worked perfectly. no problems. no errors. no conflict. i am running 3.2U please dont erase that small change or revert it. installing ios 61 and the new shop channel wad was the only way for me to see if it will work. I am not talking about anything illegal because i enjoy being on 3.2u and do buy my games legit thru the shop channel. that is the only reason why i did what i did. Whats the difference between the new wii speak channel and the old one

the new one is based off of IOS61 and so it wont work. unless u download the "updated" version. nothing new or different about it except for it being off of IOS61.Chink1234 13:02, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

All Hype

Wow. I updated because it looked interesting and i new it wouldn't break HBC. Its extremely boring. Yawn. Its a lot less amazing than it sounds. The SD menu is basically a speedier version of copying stuff to the wiis nand and running it, something that you could have already done. It just automates the process of copy/run/delete. SDHC support is a good thing i guess. Those were the only really noticeable things. Im glad i updated, for SDHC, but other than that, its a big fail for ninty. --ChuckBartowski 02:52, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Formatting

I just want to know that if I upgraded to 4.0 (now on 3.2E), decide it is crap and format, what version would I go back to? Would I go back to the version that was presesnt when I purchased my Wii (Sept. 07) or a later one? --Danny 30 March 2009

No, you'd still be on 4.0 even after formatting. All formatting would do is delete your saves and channels. --Piratesmack 21:28, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Downgrade

i have updated my wii to 4.0U and succesfully downgraded it back to 3.2U. all you need is everything for the softmii hack, except for preloader. run the ios downgrader, it says that it fails but it doesnt. run cios corp. then any region changer. --bgoode2006 18:09, 31 march 2009 (UTC)
