Questions
DVD-X
Does the DVD-X Installer download come with PatchMii so it can install the patchmii version for modchip users? or is patchmii a seperate app you have to install altogether?
- PatchMii is a separate application for modchip users which can be found here: http://hackmii.com/2008/08/libdi-and-the-dvdx-installer/ --Teknecal 08:46, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Message Board
I quote this from the Homebrew Channel/Bugs page " but I prefer to leave my WiiConnect24 on, as I get messages from Nintendo and the Homebrew Browser, and I like to be notified when they arrive." Is it true that HBB gives out notices? If so I have yet to receive one. Pinball wizard 00:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes it's true but firstly you need to add hbb@codemii.com to your Wii address book. A few days later you'll get a confirmation email and then an email when applications have been updated. --Teknecal 08:42, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
The HBB used to work fine,, But i don't know what i did, patch mii dvdx maybe?(thats the only thing i can think of. but now the HBB doesn't work... it says connecting to server, server connected now loading homebrew browser and then it restarts homebrew channel. Or if it can't connect it says error (i am not home now so am not sure but i think error-ret 115) and it says retrying (infinately until i get a code dump error.)
any Idea how i could fix this?
Thanks

Suggestions/Comments
Wii Web Server v0.91 Alpha
The one packaged in HBB is version v0.71 alpha, just to let you know, its kind of a pain Cboomf 07:19, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, it's fixed now. --Teknecal 14:44, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
v0.3 Development
HBB needs a new interface. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1483/hbbv030prototypejx9.jpg. Any suggestions or comments? --Teknecal 14:16, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- That looks pretty cool :) --Mjbauer95 19:01, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've made a new design with a bigger text size. You can see it here: http://www.gm-alex.de/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/homebrewbrowser.jpg I hope you like it and Teknecal will use it. GM_Alex
About page: http://www.codemii.com/hbbv03_about_test.dol. Are there any suggests or comments anyone has about this? --Teknecal 12:46, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think thats good, but I guess you want to move the Download/Delete buttons into the About window - which would require two clicks to install/delete an app. Perhaps it would be possible to select multiple checkboxes in the Main Screen, and then press a Download (or Delete) button that appears below the list ? (Have a look at this mockup - this would download ftpii, wiidoom and scogger) --Alanceil 18:43, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Are you still looking for designs? I am working on a flash file as a suggestion for you. You can decide wether you like it or not or even if you want to look at it. Pinball wizard 01:27, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Easy Access
Is it possible to make a channel of this for the system menu for easy access to the HBB. This way it could be like the Wii Shop Channel. Thanks! OJ
- The difficulty with this is extra code (not too difficult, mind) would have to be added in order for it not to crash if you forgot to insert the SD card. You can, of course, DIY by using a tool (can't remember what it's called <_<) available SOMEWHERE on the internet. --Lukegb 22:30, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- You won't see a channel version anytime soon, since there's no legal way to make a channel. The only channel code out there is Nintendo's code, and the Homebrew Channel's code, both of which the author's haven't given permission to use. All the channels you see out there use Nintendo's code, and this is copyright infringement. --Tantric 23:18, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Sponsors
This app is great but I know it must cost something to operate the servers and stuff. Did you ever think of getting sponsors to pay for these expenses and other hastles?
- It's hosted on a shared server for $10 USD a month. I haven't thought of sponsers as I just host other websites on the server as well. If you want to help cover the cost, you can always click the ads on codemii :P --Teknecal 05:28, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Color Blind - Different Icons for Installed/Update Available
Instead of having a blue or green (I think) check-mark for installed apps and apps with updates available, would it be possible to have different icons such as a check and a cross? This isn't a cosmetic niggle, I'm red/green colour blind (as are approx 1 in 10 men) and against the white background I find it almost impossible to tell if I have the latest version of an application at a glance. --Neversoft 19:23, 7 August 2008 (CEST)
- When LowLines did the design he did have a cross to mark applications that don't have updates, but as the cross is universally recognized as "something is wrong", I asked him to just make the blue tick. Maybe instead of a blue tick, we should have a little down arrow like this: http://www.codemii.com/status_update_on.png? --Teknecal 11:06, 8 August 2008 (CEST)
- I would read this page for design assistance in helping people that are color blind use HBB. --Spnorth 14:50, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- For "download and apply update" I was thinking of something more like an inverted capital G, an arrow pointing in a circle, like the "reload page" icon in Firefox 3. --Tepples 16:51, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Changed to a yellow tick now. --Teknecal 05:56, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Background Music
Help out by finding and linking us to any calm music loops so we can decide which one to use.

Definitely 'Loop 3'! Quixada 03:31, 7 July 2008 (CEST)
- I agree on loop 3 IF teknecal does this feature. It sounds the most wii-oriented. Pinball wizard 16:44, 11 July 2008 (CEST)
Loop 1: Too much beat for BG music. Loop 2: Sounds a little too old school for Wii. Loop 3: I'd have to agree that this is probably best... Loop 4: ...But this one is fine too.--PCDude2143 23:40, 13 July 2008 (CEST)
I'd like to put in the background music but am not great with threads. I've tried but can't get the mp3 to keep playing in the HBB. If anyone has a threading example which can loop an mp3 and do other things like draw graphics/display pictures, etc, please post a link to it here. --Teknecal 16:44, 19 July 2008 (CEST)
I found 3 more loops for backgound music that I think would sound good on the HBB. What do you think?
BBT Loop 1 BBT Loop 2 BBT Loop 3
--Big Bang Theory 23:46 31 July 2008 (CEST)
- From the First 4, my favorite is loop 3, I also liked all of Big Band Theory's, the second one kind of sounds like the temple of time, For the 3rd one I can't recall which game but I'm sure there is something similar to it in Mario Galaxy or 64 I think. --DrMario 01:08, 2 August 2008 (CEST)
- Out of the first loops, 3 or 4 but personally I prefer BBT Loop 1... It's catchier :) --Neversoft 20:21, 6 August 2008 (CEST)
I have some of that calm music that you wanted for the Homebrew Browser. it's the music that is played when you run Windows XP for the first time- if you have Windows XP, you can find it at this directory: C:\Windows\system32\oobe\images\title.wma. I hope it suits you well. --yoshicircuit 20:49, 11 August 2008 (CEST) (i like that tune, i use it while an installation of apps i create Adamdmasi 09:51, 8 November 2008 (UTC))
loop 3 is cool Adamdmasi 09:51, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Loop3 and BBT Loop 3 are both the ones I'd go with. --ANinyMouse 06:06, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Update All Button
I would like to suggest a "Update All" button that allows updating all installed apps at once instead of having to select all update buttons separately. --delirium83 20:43, 23 July 2008 (CEST)
- Or maybe just an Auto-Update at start feature --Mjbauer95 04:24, 26 July 2008 (CEST)
- Update all button is now available in HBB v0.2.5. --Teknecal 05:56, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
HB Titles - Please Delete Old Emulators
It seems like in the emulator categories all of the pictures all just say "NES Emulator" and the details don't help distinguish them apart (Just says, "NES Emulator" for most.") -- I installed FCE Ultra GX manually (the one linked here on wiibrew.org) but it didn't set off the installed mark on any of the ones in the browser: why are there like 10 versions of an NES emulator in this browser, anyway?
Same thing goes for the SNES emulators: we need a way to tell the versions apart! Nago 05:04, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- The way to tell them apart is to look at the image and you'll see the authors name on it. --Teknecal 09:51, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Even so, is there a way to expand the "details" so we can see a readme or something for each port to help us discern the different versions? "SNES Emulator" is kind of evident by the logo and the category it is in alone. Any chance of more details here? Nago 18:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- I second that, it is very confusing to know which one to use and even to know which ones are even supported anymore. Maybe just a more detailed description on each variant of snes9x. I'm not savvy with snes9x variants, so I have no idea which one would suit my needs. (See this link for a brief discussion about this.) Quixada1
- FCEU and Snes unofficial emulators have been removed. --Teknecal 05:56, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
New Image Download Behavior
The old style suited me better. I have a slow internet connection, so downloading the images takes a bit of time. I would prefer all the images to be loaded at the start, so my homebrew-browsing experience is not interrupted by waiting for images to load. Maybe add it back as an option? Or make the images download in the backgorund. Felix 12:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- I also do not like this new behavior. It takes much too long to change pages, even when the page's icons are already loaded. --Blooper4912 03:52, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
- Same here, I think that the on-the-fly downloading is kind of out of place. I liked the downloading the images to a temp dir when the app first starts. --Niceguy1012 03:01, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- HBB now allows you to select in the settings if you want to download the images before HBB loads or on-demand. --Teknecal 05:56, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Check Colors
This may be a simple thing to do or not so i am going to ask: Is it possible to have you make settings to make the checks for needs updating and up-to-date something like an X for out-of-date and a check for up-to-date? I haven't had time to update HBB yet to see it but being partly colorblind... Either way great job! Pinball wizard 22:19, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Custom Icons
I don't see much of a need to do this in the immediate future but you could add the ability to change the icons for HBC in HBB. You could have the person be able to download "packs" or just the single ones. Not much of a push but just a finishing detail for you. Pinball wizard 01:00, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Not In Order OPEN
The stuff listed in HBB are not in the order of date anymore. Just to let you know. I realized it when items from january were before february and such. Pinball wizard 00:18, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- Your probably talking about Utilities? One item was just out of place and has been fixed. --Teknecal 11:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, at least I think that was it. I assumed that HBB downloaded all the data and sorted it all out for listing purposes within itself. Pinball wizard 01:26, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Failed Update Kills HBB OPEN
Something is screwy with the HBB's server today and although the HBB found a new update, it failed upon trying to download it. So it deleted boot.elf but didn't update and replace it with a new one. I had to manually install the new version of HBB. I'd suggest some better error handling there ;) --AerialX 20:11, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- More error checking added. --Teknecal 14:08, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Can not initialize internet connection OPEN
I am currently using a Wii with 3.2 firmware, and homebrew channel beta 8. I have installed and gotten plenty of apps to work fine, however I have never been able to get this application to work. It just says that it cant initialize with the network. Opera works fine, weather channel, wii connect 24, and the Homebrew channel had updated automatically when I installed beta 7. Is there are a port you would recommend opening up on my router to try and solve this issue. I have a feeling my routers firewall is blocking it. Its an actiontec wifi router that comes standard with verizon fios.
- The Homebrew Browser uses HTTP on port 80 to get all of the data... So unless port 80 is blocked by your firewall, I don't think that's the issue. However, I have heard of other people having this same issue without resolution. Can I ask specifics about how your Network connection is set up on the Wii? As in, Wireless, Nintendo Wifi adapter, Wired... Static IP, Automatic, Proxy.... ? Any info would be helpful --ProdigySim 19:12, 22 July 2008 (CEST)
So i use the wii's built in wifi, with automatic configuration on a WEP key. I believe its 64 bit WEP, but it may be 128 bit. I can check when I get home. I will try disabling it though when I get home and see if that changes anything. --DaveyDucati 14:53, 22 July 2008 (EST)
- So I resolved the problem by placing my wii in a DMZ in the routers settings. I also noticed that the homebrew channel doesn't connect to the internet unless the wii is in the DMZ as well. For some reason my firewall doesn't play nice with homebrew. I can try to email you a log of my firewall activity if you like. --DaveyDucati 20:16 22 July 2008 EST
- It appears that after one successfuly connection, I could not log in again. I Switched to WPA on my wifi, and I did get it to work, but i dont know if thats just one time because it involved resetting my router. I will do more testing tonight. If the wii is in the DMZ though it cant be a firewall issue. I would keep it on WPA, but not all wifi devices in my house support it. --DaveyDucati 09:16 23 July 2008 EST
- The other case I had heard of got resolved, and it was also a case of using automatic configuration (AOSS). He changed from that to a manual configuration and it began working. --ProdigySim 07:31, 24 July 2008 (CEST)
I now have my router set to no security, but to only allow certain MAC address, and the homebrew channel seems to work. --DaveyDucati 18:13, 24 July 2008 (CEST)
Have you tried to disable wiiconnect24 before starting HBB?
I'm having this same problem. (To post above, I just tried that, and it still doesn't work.) --Sin 09:47, 1 August 2008 (CEST)
I had the same problem using wireless and WEP, but it seemed that changing to a Static IP solved the problem. --tpw_rules 22:34, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Another thing to try is to disable WEP. I spoke to had a user who couldn't initialise the network and when they disabled the WEP security, it worked.
- Greetings! The only way to fix the "Unable to initialise network, exiting" error for me, is using a non-encrypted connection or WEP.
- WPA and WPA2 do not work. Can anyone confirm this? --SpyroDragon 02:36, 24 September 2008
- WPA2-AES working fine here, Turning off WiiConnect24 fixed the "Unable to initialise network..." error for me. --Tarv 03:09, 17 November 2008 (CST)
- It seems like 1/4 times I load the HBB it is 'unable to initialize'. is this normal? --Cyndaquil 02:02, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
On my Wii, I've only got it to work 5 out of around 40 tries. WEP, WPA (AES), or no encryption doesn't seem to really matter. Could a retry button be added to Homebrew Browser when the network fails to initialize, instead of immediately exiting? In the Homebrew Channel, if I repeatedly retry connection, it works about the 2nd or 3rd time. I'm using IOS36 with the latest (0.2.5) Homebrew Browser and and Homebrew Channel (1.0.1). --digitalcircuit36939 12:47, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- v0.2.5b now keeps retrying the network if it can't initialise it. --Teknecal 14:08, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Upgrade problem SOLVED
Hello Teknecal, When i'm tryning to update with network, it's impossible ton do it When i want to update from the version 0.2.4, a code dump bug appear THX
- When you press A to update, is that when the code dump appears? Can you try downloading an application in HBB v0.2.4? --Teknecal 00:53, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- My HBB upgraded fine from 0.2.4 to 0.2.5, but when I started the updated version a code dump occurred. I used FTPii and deleted the settings file. It appeared to have been created wrong and had odd characters in its name. HBB works now and I was able to change the settings in it. --Spnorth 15:50 December 13, 2008
- That's strange. I've updated HBB again to check if the file can be read when it's loading the settings.xml file so that should be fixed. --Teknecal 00:53, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

- That's strange, I suppose I should add a file size check once the update has happened to check that it's the right size. --Teknecal 08:43, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- The problem might be that the memory card was out of freespace, it had 2.9Mb free. Now I'm using a larger one, and it's working fine :-). Steinark 19:40, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- You actually bring up a good point. I should add a check to HBB to make sure that there is enough size on the SD card to download the application. --Teknecal 08:46, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Checkmark Colors RECEIVED
Is it possible to make them different shapes instead of the colors? Hate to bother you with such simple things but me being also partly colorblind cannot tell ANY difference in the checkmarks. Thanks. Pinball wizard 00:23, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yossi suggested using a question mark ?, do you think that would work alright? --Teknecal 09:09, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
